This Montrose mainstay on Shepherd Drive has been doling out dough to its loyal morning customers for nearly 40 years. Long lines are a familiar sight, especially on weekends, but for good reason as the huge variety of scratch-made bagels and outstanding cream cheeses can attest. Skip the line and place an online order for pick-up, and don’t forget some of the staples of Hot Bagel, which includes the smoked salmon sandwich, pizza bagels, and bagel dogs.

New York Deli & Coffee Shop on Hillcroft

The Kornhaber family opened this unassuming New York-style bagel shop in 1975, to be joined by the neighboring deli a few years later. The deli menu is filled with delicious ways to get your breakfast and lunch started (from omelette platters to Philly cheesesteaks), but head through the door on the right to enter the original Bagel Shop Bakery and enjoy 100% kosher bagels and spreads that are staples of the New York Deli.

The Bagel Shop Bakery in Bellaire

An expansion from the beloved New York Deli & Coffee Shop on Hillcroft, this newest location ups the ante on the bagel game with 100% kosher ingredients and a broadened menu that now includes hot foods, pastries and coffee. Sensitive diets can also be satisfied as the Bagel Shop Bakery serves up vegan, keto and dairy-free baked goods to complement it’s colorful and highly varied fresh-baked goodies.

Jersey Bagels in Jersey Village

This family-owned brick-and-mortar bagel shop began out of owner Cory Yates’ kitchen in 2019 before finally landing a spot in Northwest Houston off Highway 6. The Black-owned business offers sturdy Jersey-style bagels that come in a variety of flavors with colorful twists and a staggering selection of cream cheeses. They’re so good, in fact, that bagels are known to sell out on weekends by as early as 11am—but call ahead and ask to reserve a bagel to make sure you’ve got a bite to bring home.

Bagel Express in Sugar Land
