Explore America with Apollo Chamber Players’ 2024-25 Season: We The People

Cast your ballot and lock in your seats with season subscriptions to Apollo Chamber Players’ We The People, a four-concert and performance series exploring key aspects our country and community, from Saturday, October 5, 2024 through Saturday, May 10, 2025.

Apollo Chamber Players’ 17th season debuts under the banner of We The People, an extended focus on American democracy in both its ideals and its imperfections in a series of four insightfully curated programs—Liberty, Opportunity, Diversity, and Freedom.

Throughout the four concerts and live performances, Apollo takes an in-depth look at key facets of the American system and character, examining the promises the nation has made to its people and the extent to which they’ve been fulfilled or broken.

Apollo Chamber Players 2024-25 Season: We The People

Each of the four distinct We The People performances will feature Apollo’s ensemble—joined by guest composers, musicians and performers—as the quartet debuts world premieres of original commissioned works, classic musical pieces, and art.

Season subscriptions include tickets to all four performances.

  • We The People Concert 1: Liberty with George Takei at the Hobby Center | Saturday, October 5, 2024 – The season kicks off with a moving exploration of American liberty, and its successes and failures. A program highlight will feature actor and activist George Takei sharing the story of his Japanese American family’s forced internment during World War II. Composer and five-time Grammy winner John Corigliano’s “One Sweet Morning” reflects on aspirations of peace and freedom, while Afghan-born composer Homayoun Sakh brings a global perspective on the promises and perils  of the quest for liberty. 7pm.
  • We The People Concert 2: Opportunity at MATCH | Saturday, January 4, 2025 – Apollo celebrates the U.S. as a beacon of creative freedom and opportunity by highlighting composers drawn to the nation from around the world. Playing works by composers who migrated to the U.S from the U.K, Hungary, Cuba, and Turkey, Apollo will also be joined by percussionist Jesús Pacheco and dancers from the Houston Ballet, performing in tandem with Leo Brouwer’s “Nostalgia de los Montañas”. 7:30pm.
  • We The People Concert 3: Diversity at Hobby Center | Friday, March 21, 2025 – Timed for the Persian New Year celebration, Nowruz, the program celebrates Houston’s multicultural beauty. Highlighting the evening, Apollo will perform the world premiere of Iranian-American composer Reza Vali’s “Bandari”, joined by Iranian-born percussionist Pejman Hadadi. The program will also showcase works by Palestinian-American and Israeli composers, as well as American composer Daniel Bernard Roumain’s String Quartet No. 5 “Rosa Parks”. 7:30pm.
  • We The People Concert 4: Freedom at Holocaust Museum Houston | Saturday, May 10, 2025 – With Holocaust Museum Houston providing a powerful backdrop, the program is an intergenerational dialogue about freedom, democracy. and the future. Apollo will pair Howard Hanson’s 1957 work “Song of Democracy”—a musical setting for poetry by Walt Whitman—with works by new and aspiring composers, including the world premiere of Marcus Moroney’s “What Does Democracy Mean to You?” High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA) Choir will join the performance which will also feature a set of Ukrainian, Polish and Greek folk songs. 7pm.
