This week, a three-day country fest sets up in Montgomery County on the weekend, jazz comes to Sugar Land for back-to-back nights, and Toyota Center welcomes royalty of rap and Bachata.

  • Kenny Chesney at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion | Thursday, May 9 – No Shoes Nation, rise up because one of the biggest and best-selling country music stars in the world returns to the Woodlands on his Sun Goes Down tour, with the talented Megan Moroney in support. $48 and up. 7:30pm.
  • Blackberry Smoke at 713 Music Hall | Thursday, May 9 – The southern rock and roll band soldiers on after the passing of founding member and drummer Brit Turner, paying tribute to their fallen comrade as they tour their new album, Be Right Here. $25 and up. 8pm.
  • Nicki Minaj, with Monica at Toyota Center | Thursday, May 9 – The “barbs” will be showing out for rap royalty when Nicki Minaj brings her much-lauded Pink Friday 2 world tour to the Clutch City stage, joined by the one and only R&B artist Monica. $104 and up. 8pm.

  • Marty Haggard’s Tribute to His Father Merle at Main Street Crossing | Thursday, May 9 – The son of Merle Haggard lands in Tomball for a night of the country crooner’s hits and other solid gold country classics. $39 and up. 8pm.
  • Echo & the Bunnymen at White Oak Music Hall | Friday, May 10 – The iconic Liverpudlian ’80s rock band celebrate 40 years of their seminal compilation record, Songs to Learn & Sing. $49 and up. 7pm.
  • Ladies R&B Kickback with Faith Evans & Jon B at Arena Theatre | Friday, May 10 – Get ready to kick it back with some of the hottest R&B stars of all time, led by three-time platinum certified singer-songwriter and actress, Faith Evans. Expect appearances by Jon B, Ginuwine, and more at the Southwest Houston stage. $67.30 and up. 8pm.
  • Big As Texas Music Festival at Montgomery County Fairgrounds | Friday, May 10 to Sunday, May 12 – This three-day music fest offers a stacked lineup of performers, including Thomas Rhett, Dierks Bentley, Billy Strings, Dwight Yoakam, Midland, Los Lobos, Morgan Wade and many more. Plus, you can check out live mural art, pig races, a varnival, car show, food trucks and plenty of other Texas-sized fun. Single day passes are $139 and up; $249 for a 3-day pass; free for ages 10 and under. Times vary.
  • Slowdive, with Drab Majesty at White Oak Music Hall | Saturday, May 11 – Dive into a swirling vortex of sound as the band synonymous with the shoegaze genre, Slowdive, celebrates their first record in six years, Everything is Alive. Darkwave dream pop outfit Drab Majesty opens up. $49 and up. 7pm.

  • Gavin DeGraw at White Oak Music Hall | Saturday, May 11 – Sing along to Gavin DeGraw’s soulful anthems like “I Don’t Want to To Be” and “Chariot” at the White Oak stage when the hitmaker brings his pop rock energy to Houston. $35 and up. 7pm.
  • Neil Berg’s 50 Years of Rock & Roll at the Grand 1894 Opera House | Saturday, May 11 – If rock musicals are your jam, this is your show as Neil Berg delivers 50 years of rock and roll with tributes to iconic stars from Elvis to Led Zeppelin and beyond. $22.50 and up. 8pm. 
  • Sugar Land Jazz Festival at Crown Festival Park | Saturday, May 11 & Sunday, May 12 – For back-to-back days, this jazz fest in Sugar Land offers evenings of music from performers like Boney James, Robert Glasper and Tower of Power, among others. $54 and up. 5pm to 10:30pm.
  • Aventura at Toyota Center | Saturday, May 11 & Sunday, May 12 – Get ready for two nights with los reyes de Bachata when the legendary pioneers of Bachata music, Aventura, bring their signature sound and musical prowess to the Toyota Center stage—for what might be the final time. $125 and up. 8pm.
  • Tank, with Keri Hilson & Carl Thomas at Smart Financial Centre | Sunday, May 12 – Smooth R&B singer Tank is bringing his soulful sound to the Sugar Land stage, with support from Keri Hilson and Carl Thomas. $60 and up. 8pm.
