- Sugar Land Space Cowboys vs. El Paso Chihuahuas at Constellation Field | Daily – The final series of the season sees the Chihuahuas back in town for Space City baseball. Fans can take in the weekend with a special Día de los Muertos jersey giveaway on Friday and a Jeremy Peña bobblehead giveaway on Saturday. $12 and up. Times vary.
- Passaporte Portugal at Central Market | Daily – Explore the flavors and culture of Portugal with a series of in-store events, including food and wine tastings, cooking classes and demonstrations, a silent disco and other activities. Pricing and times vary.
- Comedian Ali Siddiq at Houston Improv | Thursday to Saturday – A Bring the Funny finalist and H-Town’s own, Ali Siddiq lands at the Improv for six high-demand shows across the weekend. $80 for 2, and up. Times vary.
- The Riot Comedy Club presents Ismo at Rudyard’s Pub | Friday & Saturday – The comedian from Finland has managed to replicate his home country success in the States, and you can catch his latest set across two nights in Montrose. $17 and up. 7pm and 9pm.
- Uptown Dance Company presents Take~Off at MATCH | Friday & Saturday – The company marks its 23rd season with three world premieres. Red, White and Blue pays tribute to country heritage and American music; Sinatra showcases choreography inspired by one of the 20th century’s most iconic voices; and Indigenous pays homage to a tribe that thrived in Brazil in the early 15th century. $15 and up. 7:30pm.

Houston’s own Queen Bey returns to H-Town for two concerts as part of her Renaissance World Tour. Her first concert in the Bayou City in seven years, these shows are among the most anticipated concerts of the year and are expected to sell out.

- Galveston Island Shrimp Festival in Downtown Galveston | Friday & Saturday – Sample some of the Gulf Coast’s best shrimp and gumbo, enjoy the L’il Shrimps parade, live music, a Strand merchant market and other family fun. - Karbachtoberfest Week 1 at Karbach Brewing Company | Friday to Sunday | FREE – The annual German celebration of beer and brewing gets a decidedly Karbach twist with wiener dog races, live music, stein hoisting and other family-friendly activities. Times vary.
- Houston Astros vs. Kansas City Royals at Minute Maid Park | Friday to Sunday – Kansas City rolls through for the last homestand of the regular season. Marking Hispanic Heritage Weekend, fans can expect giveaways like a Jose Abreu Los Astros jersey on Friday and a sugar skull bobblehead on Saturday. $26 and up. Times vary.
- 27th Houston Turkish Festival at the Water Works at Buffalo Bayou | Saturday & Sunday – Sample simit sandwiches and falafel wraps, shop a bazaar of art and other unique finds, and enjoy traditional folk dances and music as you celebrate the vibrant culture of Turkey. $10 in advance; free for ages 12 and under. Saturday 11am to 9pm; Sunday 11am to 8pm.

- Houston Ballet presents Tutu at Wortham Center | Thursday, Saturday & Sunday | Opening Weekend – The ballet opens its season with a triple bill featuring the Houston premiere of Balanchine’s iconic “Stars and Stripes,” set to the marches of John Philip Sousa; Delmira, a world premiere Houston Ballet commission from Colombian Belgian choreographer Annabelle Lopez Ochoa; and Stanton Welch’s Tu Tu, with its tongue-in-cheek choreography set to Ravel’s Concerto for Piano in G major. - 4th Wall Theatre Company presents The Pavilion at Spring Street Studios | Friday to Sunday | Opening Weekend – Craig Wright’s play explores the lives, loves and regrets of Peter and Kari, high school sweethearts who reunite at their 20th high school reunion. Called an “Our Town for our time,” critics around the country have praised the show’s deft dialogue and insight to relationships. This production runs through Saturday, October 7. $30 and up. - Chicken & Biscuits at Ensemble Theatre | Friday to Sunday | Opening Weekend – Douglas Lyons’ family comedy examines what happens when the Jenkins crew comes together to celebrate the life and legacy of the family patriarch. - American Mariachi at Alley Theatre | Friday to Sunday | Opening Weekend – In this play about dreaming big, it’s the 1970s, and Lucha wants to form a mariachi band. But girls don’t do that. - Main Street Theater for Youth presents Carmela Full of Wishes at MATCH | Sunday | Opening Weekend – This touching tale is the story of Carmela, who has a very special wish to help keep her family together. Based on the children’s book by Matt de la Peña, it’s a family-friendly production that explores hope in the migrant community. This production runs through Saturday, October 21. $20 and up. - What the Constitution Means to Me at Main Street Theater | Daily | Ongoing – This regional premiere tells the story of 15-year-old Heidi, who earned scholarship money for college by taking part in Constitutional debate competitions. As Heidi looks back on her experiences, she considers what one of our most important founding documents means for our history and our future. - AD Players presents Forever Plaid at the George Theater | Daily | Ongoing – The Plaids are on their way to a gig when they’re hit by a bus and killed instantly. What happens when they return from the afterlife for one final show? The answer lies in this beloved musical filled with barbershop harmonies and enchanting melodies. - Stages presents Always…Patsy Cline at the Gordy | Daily | Ongoing – Celebrating its 35th anniversary, this musical biography features 27 of the iconic country singer’s hits, while showcasing her rise to stardom in the 1960s. It’s also the story of the friendship between Cline and Houston native Louise Seger, who met the singer in a Bayou City honky tonk. $48 and up. Showtimes vary.
- POTUS: Or, Behind Every Great Dumbass Are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive at the Gordy | Daily | Ongoing – This feminist farce explores power, misogyny and how women both support and undermine each other. When the president makes an off-color statement including a certain four-letter word, all hell breaks loose. The women on his staff and in his family roll into action to contain the fallout, even as events spool out of their control. $30 and up. Showtimes vary.
- Music Box Theater presents Back to the ‘80s at Queensbury Theater | Friday & Saturday | Ongoing – The cabaret group performs a concert of hits from the era of legwarmers, Members Only jackets and big hair. Expect your ‘80s favorites along with hilarity and hijinks. $38 and up. 7:30pm.
- Pop Demo at MATCH | Thursday to Saturday | Final Weekend – Set in the stylistic decor of Pop Art, this production blends political commentary, offbeat theatre, aerial, contemporary dance and visuals to explore how the ideas of popular democracy, extremism and propaganda have shaped and warped American beliefs. $35 and up. - The Greatest Play in the History of the World at Spring Street Studios | Thursday to Saturday | Final Weekend – A love story set in space, this play starring Kacie Adams asks profound questions with deep sincerity while balancing the human quest for meaningful connections. - Going Batty at Houston Arboretum & Nature Center – This adults-only event takes you on a nature walk with special devices so you can listen to bat sonar. - Ars Lyrica presents Fallen Angels at Hobby Center – The early music ensemble opens its 2023-2024 season with this exploration of the paranormal in Baroque music.
