  • Comedian Eddie Griffin at Houston Improv | Friday & Saturday – From rave reviews for his appearance on Def Comedy Jam to an Ace Award–winning HBO special and his Showtime special Undeniable, Griffin has been a fixture in the comedy world for more than 30 years. He brings his observations on life and people to Houston for back-to-back nights at the Improv. $180 for four, and up. Times vary.
  • The Riot Comedy Club presents Jourdain Fisher at Rudyard’s British Pub | Friday & Saturday – The comedian, writer and actor, who’s been seen on The Tonight Show and Comedy Central, comes to Houston for three shows at the Montrose pub. $20 and up. Times vary.
  • Trucktoberfest at Truck Yard | Saturday & Sunday | No Cover – German food and drink are on tap for Truck Yard’s annual Trucktoberfest celebration. Break out the lederhosen to enjoy Oktoberfest beers, Pretzel Eating and Stein Hoisting contests for prizes, and more across two days of fun. All ages are welcome; 21+ after 9pm. Open at noon, contests start at 5pm.

  • Cards Against Humanity at Ingenious Brewing Company | No Cover – Grab your friends and head the Humble brewery for the inappropriate hilarity of Cards Against Humanity. Who will assemble the raunchiest situations with the cards they’re dealt? 7pm to 9pm.
  • Trivia Night at Star Sailor | No Cover – Flex your knowledge on a wide range of trivia topics for the Thirsty Thursdays trivia night at the Heights bar and burger spot on 18th Street. Prizes will be up for grabs for first, second and third place. 7pm to 9pm.
  • Comedian Jesse Peyton & Friends at the Houston Improv – Houston comedian Jesse Peyton hosts a hilarious night of local comics, including SrslyMelissa, Daren Neely, Rodney Bigham and Shelley Kidwell. $40 for 2, and up. 7:30pm.
  • Gera MX & Nanpa Basico in Concert at 713 Music Hall – Fresh off the summer collab release of “Prohibida,” the Latin rappers join forces for a tour stopping through Post Houston in Downtown. $59.50 and up. 8pm.

Friday, September 8, 2023 

  • A Late Summer Night’s Dream at Houston Botanic Garden – Spend the evening strolling the South Houston garden’s beautiful grounds as you enjoy treats, sips and tastes. Along the way, discover the fascinating world of plants and experience an oasis amid Houston’s hustle and bustle. $35. 6pm to 8pm.
  • Tyler Casey: Once Upon a Time Opening Reception at Reeves Art & Design | FREE – Heavily influenced by pop culture, art history and the ever-evolving worlds of politics, artist Tyler Casey presents his work at this solo show in Montrose that addresses contemporary issues and reflects the pulse of our society. 6pm to 9pm.
  • Bayou City Funk in Concert at the Heights Theater – The seven-piece band known for delivering deep pocket grooves performs live, showing why audiences dig their soulful, gritty vocals. Nik Parr & the Selfless Lovers open the show. $18. 8pm.
  • Sam Smith, with Jessie Reyez in Concert at Toyota Center – The Grammy, Brit, Golden Globe and Oscar winner arrives in Houston on his Gloria: The Tour—their first North American tour since 2018. Jessie Reyez, who guests on Smith’s Gloria album, supports. $35 and up. 8pm.
  • Dexta Daps in Concert at Rise Rooftop – The Jamaican dancehall and reggae performer, known for songs such as “Forever,” “Call Me If” and “Wifi,” comes to the Midtown club as part of his Triology Tour. 18+. $50 and up. 9pm.
  • Rodeo Rave at White Oak Music Hall – This country music DJ party will have you grooving all night long to your fave hits and deep cuts. Expect songs by artists like Kacey Musgraves, Shania Twain, Luke Bryan and more. $15. 9pm.
  • Maor Levi DJ Set at Bauhaus – Israeli producer Maor Levi makes a stop in Downtown as part of his Shift EP Tour. $10 and up. 10pm.
  • Feminine Friday Burlesque Show at Social Beer Garden | FREE – The Midtown beer garden opens up the outdoor patio for a night of tantalizing burlesque performances from talents like Gia Vaughna, Ramona Rose, Fox Monroe and Nikki Knockout. 11pm.

Saturday, September 9, 2023 

  • Anniversary Party at True Anomaly Brewing Company | No Cover – The brewery, founded by four guys from NASA in 2019, celebrates four years with a day of live music, a rotating tap featuring rare beers, ticketed tours and tastings, space tattoos, and more. No charge to attend, but tastings start at $55. 11am to midnight.
  • Saturday Drag Bingo at Bar Boheme | FREE – The iconic weekend drag brunch returns to the patio of Bar Boheme in Montrose for an afternoon of free bingo with drink specials, drag hosts, DJs and more. 21+ only. Noon to 3pm.
  • 4th Annual Barry White Birthday Party at Lucky Lounge | No Cover – Celebrate the deep baritone R&B tones of Galveston’s native son, Barry White, at an afternoon party filled with music, drink specials, giveaways, and barbecue plates in downtown Galveston. Free to attend; $10 for barbecue plates. Noon to 5pm.
  • Beats & Brews at Ingenious Brewing Company | No Cover – This interactive music and arts event features stunning installations, light displays, flow dancing, and more. Expect drink specials and food, available from Peppez food truck, plus music and local vendors. 7pm to 11pm.
  • The Music of Sam Cooke: A Change Is Gonna Come at Miller Outdoor Theatre | FREE – Explore the life and legacy of the musician who helped invent soul when Bradd Marquis and the Magnificents highlight his iconic hits like “A Change is Gonna Come,” “You Send Me,” and “Wonderful World” live on the Miller stage. 8pm.
  • Doomsday Wrestling presents All the World’s a Cage at Urban South HTX Brewery – The comedy wrestling spectacle returns to the Houston brewery with a steel cage match, pitting your favorites against each other in a chain-link nightmare. $16 and up. 9pm.

  • The Diaspora Food Festival at Karbach Brewing Company | FREE – Experience African-influenced cuisine from around the globe at this foodie event in Spring Branch. There’s also local merchants, live music and entertainment, drinks and other fun. 11am to 6pm.
  • 49ers Opening Day Celebration at Social Beer Garden | No Cover – Catch the San Francisco team’s opening NFL game on the Midtown sports bar’s jumbo TV and enjoy raffles, giveaways, 49ers swag, live DJs, and Sour Dough Sam. Noon.
  • Bayou City Outdoors presents Gear Swap at Axelrad | FREE – Show up with your tents, bikes, kayaks, camping gear, paddles, backpacks and other outdoor paraphernalia to sell or swap it. Need gear? This is the place for you. Sellers must email Bayou City Outdoors in order to reserve a space. Registration is requested for buyers and sellers. Noon to 3pm.
  • Let’s Play Loteria with Barrio Dogs at The Ballroom at Bayou Place – Play some rounds of lotería at this lively fundraising event that helps support Barrio Dogs, who’s mission is to create a better future for pets and the community. Enjoy a hearty tamale and nacho bar, plus drinks and a lotería costume contest. $50. 1pm to 5pm.
  • Bob Moses DJ Set at Clé Day & Night – The Canadian electronic duo makes a stop in Houston for a house music set that will have you dancing the end of the weekend away. Fashionable pool attire encouraged. 21+. $25 and up. 2pm to 8pm.
  • Moneybagg Yo in Concert at Toyota Center – The Memphis rapper hits up Toyota Center for a night of songs from his latest release, Hard to Love, and other hits. Finesse2Tymes, Big Boogie and more open the show. $49 and up. 7pm.
  • Iann Dior in Concert at Warehouse Live – Fresh off the release of his third album, Leave Me Where You Found Me, the Puerto Rican emo rapper brings chart topping songs like “Mood” to the EaDo stage. $25.50 and up. 8pm.
