- Culture Camp for Teens: Master Chef Showdown at Asia Society Texas Center | Monday, August 7 to Friday, August 11 – Help your kiddo tap into their inner chef with a week-long camp focused on Asian food traditions. Learn how to make smart, healthy food choices while developing leadership skills for inside and outside the kitchen, followed by a judged event at the end. Recommended for ages 13 to 17. Not recommended for students with food allergies or food sensitivities. $375, plus $50 materials fee. 9am to 3pm.
- Taylor Fest at Rise Rooftop | Friday, August 11 – Calling all Taylor Swift fans for a unique way to “Shake it Off.” This all-ages dance party will have Swifties singing all the hits of the pop superstar in the airy environment of Rise Rooftop in Midtown. $20. 9pm.
- Moody Gardens Air, Car & Boat Show at Moody Gardens Convention Center | Friday, August 11 to Sunday, August 13 – Hundreds of vehicles built for land, sea and air will assemble for one weekend in Galveston that features aircraft rides, an air show, up-close viewings of all the crafts, live music, and a Saturday night fireworks show. $20 and up. Times vary.
- Seussical at MATCH | Friday, August 11 to Sunday, August 13 – Oh the places you will go with this lighthearted and fun musical based on Dr. Seuss classics. The colorful characters transport us from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus and off to the invisible world of the Whos. $40 and up; $20 for ages 11 and under. Showtimes vary.
- Summer Sizzler 5K/10K at Brazos River Park | Saturday, August 12 – Pound some pavement and get moving as a family at the Summer Sizzler in Sugar Land. Burn calories while having fun and snagging great swag, delicious treats, free Kona Ice and more. Kids Dash is fun for ages 10 and under. Registration is $29 and up; $19 for Kids Dash. 7am.
- Trail Mix: Music, Magic & More at M-K-T | Saturday, August 12 | FREE – Bring the fam to the free monthly variety show for the young and young at heart. Enjoy live music from Andy Roo and a magic performance from father-and-son duo David and Jake Rangel, plus free water and samples from Mendocino Farms’ kid-friendly menu. 10am to 11am.
- DIY Terrariums at Houston Botanic Garden | Saturday, August 12 – Ankita Vadher leads this class that shows you how to build self-sustaining terrariums with soil, pebbles, living moss and mini figurines. Tickets are required for each terrarium made. $50. 10am to 11am.
- The Infinite Force at Children’s Museum Houston | Saturday, August 12 | FREE – Galaxies will collide at this Star Wars–inspired day at Children’s Museum Houston, which offers photo ops with Boba Fett, Fennec Shand, Darth Vader, R2D2, Clone Troopers and more—and a workshop where you can build your own Jedi spaceship. Costumes encouraged. $17 for ages 1 and up. 10am to 6pm.
- Back-to-School Fashion Show & Supply Drive at First Colony Mall | Saturday, August 12 | FREE – Embrace the latest back-to-school fashions while supporting Heart Gallery Houston at the back-to-school charity fashion show during tax-free weekend at the Sugar Land mall. Watch tot and teen models flaunt the latest fashion trends at Center Court near the Apple store, with customized looks from retailers. 1pm to 3pm.
- AIA Sandcastle Competition at East Beach | Saturday, August 12 & Sunday, August 13 | FREE – Walk the sandy beaches of Galveston as you watch in awe as pros sculpt giant sandcastles and elaborate works of art with themes like pop culture, kids board games, Americana and more. If you happen to miss the big competition day, Sunday offers a viewing day with potentially smaller crowds. Free to attend, though parking is $15 (cash only). Competition begins at 10am; awards at 4:30pm.
