This month, the Texans return with preseason action, the Astros face division rivals, and the Dynamo look to add hardware to their trophy cabinet.

Top 12 Sports Games in Houston This Month: August 2023

  • Houston Texans Training Camp at NRG Park | Friday, August 4 to Thursday, August 17 | FREE – On select days in August, the Texans invite the public to come see the new squad on the practice field. Each day includes themed events, leading up to back-to-back joint practices with the Miami Dolphins. Free with advance ticket. Practices are at 9am; Saturday, August 5 at 6pm.
  • 2023 Watermelon Dash at Karbach Brewing Company | Saturday, August 5 – Take part in the 4th annual Watermelon Dash, the third and final Summer Dash Series race, designed to help keep you and the family fit and refreshed in the summer. In addition to 5K and 10K runners, Kids K and Family Walk participants will also receive a t-shirt and finisher’s medal. Stick around for the post-race fun with food and drink, music and more entertainment. $25 for the Kids K; $50 and up for other lengths. 7:30am.
  • Houston Astros vs. Los Angeles Angels at Minute Maid Park | Friday, August 11 to Sunday, August 13 – For the final time this regular season, MLB slugger Shohei Ohtani makes an appearance at Minute Maid for a three-game series with the ‘Stros across Hall of Fame Weekend. Enjoy special appearances by Astros legends, giveaways like a Minute Maid Park replica, and more. $25 and up. Times vary.
  • Sugar Land Space Cowboys vs. Round Rock Express at Constellation Field | Tuesday, August 15 to Sunday, August 20 – Houston’s very own cosmic cowboys are hosting the Round Rock Express for an entire week of minor league baseball action. Show off your artistic abilities by being one of the first 2,000 fans on Saturday to receive a paint-your-own Orion bobblehead, or enjoy other giveaways on gamedays. $9 and up. Times vary.
  • Houston Astros vs. Seattle Mariners at Minute Maid Park | Friday, August 18 to Sunday, August 20 – Celebrate Jose Altuve at this final home series against division rivals from Seattle. The first 10,000 fans on Friday will receive an Altuve ’90s Throwback Jersey, or a Jose Altuve Silver Slugger bobblehead on Saturday. And, with a special ticket purchase, you can even bring your pup along to the game on Sunday afternoon. $26 and up; special ticket required for dog admission. Times vary.
  • NFL Preseason: Houston Texans vs. Miami Dolphins at NRG Stadium | Saturday, August 19 – Head coach DeMeco Ryans makes his debut when the Houston Texans host their only home game in NFL preseason. $24 and up. 3pm.
  • Houston Dash vs. Washington Spirit at Shell Energy Stadium | Saturday, August 19 – In a big match that could help the Dash climb the standings, they’ll face the women of Washington Spirit on the eve of the Women’s World Cup Final. $10 and up. 7:30pm.
  • Houston Dynamo FC vs. Portland Timbers at Shell Energy Stadium | Sunday, August 20 – The Dynamo look to hold their position as the MLS playoffs creep ever closer. $12 and up. 7:30pm.
  • Houston Astros vs. Boston Red Sox at Minute Maid Park | Monday, August 21 to Thursday, August 24 – Space City Mondays, Dollar Dog Night and a Martín Maldonado World Series ring highlight the fan perks in this four-game series against the Boston Red Sox. $18 and up. Times vary.
  • US Open Cup Semifinal: Houston Dynamo FC vs. Real Salt Lake at Shell Energy Stadium | Wednesday, August 23 – Five years after winning the US Open Cup, the Dynamo will again have a shot at getting to the historic competition’s Final, but they have to cross Real Salt Lake to do it. $10 and up. 8:30pm. 
  • National Battle of the Bands at NRG Stadium | Saturday, August 26 – Kicking off the fall marching band season, this annual competition sees the country’s top bands battling it out on the Texans’ gridiron. TSU’s Ocean of Soul Marching Band highlights the lineup, alongside six other HBCU programs. $20 and up. 6pm.
  • Houston Dash vs. Kansas City Current at Shell Energy Stadium | Saturday, August 26 – In the final home match until October, the Dash celebrate some of Houston’s inspirational women leaders on Inspiring Women’s Night at the stadium. $10 and up. 7:30pm.
