Houston is a great place to unwind. In this series, we’ll hop from neighborhood to neighborhood, diving into the fun and tasty ways to join in on the time-honored tradition of Sunday Funday, from brunch to live music and more.

Just west of the 610 loop, the luxurious neighborhoods of Galleria and Uptown are known as the shopping mecca of Houston.

It’s home to the high-end Galleria mall, as well as the Uptown Park shopping district, plus plenty of fun, non-shopping experiences that make for a perfect Sunday Funday.

Brunch opportunities are abundant in this posh slice of town.

A refreshed take on Texas-American fare, The Annie is an absolute stunner. Posh and chic, head here to brunch on shrimp cocktail with smoked chile cocktail sauce, fried quail and biscuits, and brioche french toast alongside negronis and rosé.

Over at Hugo Ortega’s coastal Mexican hotspot, Caracol, the Sunday brunch experience features a bounteous buffet and live music. Go for cocteles and ceviches, seafood enchiladas and empanadas, chilaquiles and chile rellenos, and more succulent Gulf-fresh fare.

Other standout options include The Post Oak Hotel’s hot pink boutique Bloom & Bee; stylish Galleria tasting kitchen and wine bar Fig & Olive; and handsome, high-class hotspot The Warwick.

Chill out at ice houses, sports bars or pubs

Hit the taps to enjoy the 50+ craft beer list under the shaded terrace at Post Oak Ice House, a laidback hangout off Chimney Rock and Richmond; or score some serious patio action over at Muldoon’s Patio.

Post Oak Irish pub Ducky McShweeney’s is always a good time, sporting all-day hours, draft beers and pub fare, and a shamrockin’ Sunday brunch.

Sports fans will find exactly what they’re looking for at Jake’s Sports Bar, the quintessential neighborhood sports pub rocking flatscreens, wings and nachos, tons of beer, and a full bar.

Pair ranch waters with live music

Spend your funday at live music bar and kitchen The Rustic in Uptown Park and you can pair your ranch waters with country jams.

The kitchen rocks a family-style Toast & Jam brunch on Sundays, with brunchy bites from country baked eggs and cheesy potato hash to Texas hot chicken and baby challah french toasts.

Tack on house bloody marys and frosés, then stick around for margs and more.

Have a sake & sushi-fueled Sunday supper

There are oh-so many omakase options for your Sunday Funday experience.

The ultra-exclusive Hidden Omakase is the most intimate of the bunch, offering an 18-seat chef’s counter curated by the uber-talented chef Niki Vongthong.

A choice spot for a chill hangout or a date night, Sushi on Post Oak’s popular dishes include a Volcano roll, lit on fire and delivered to your table flaming. Get it alongside Japanese whiskies and cocktails.

Japanese bar and lounge Nobu is a global sushi stunner, with a daily lounge happy hour and Nobu’s famous dishes like the Black Cod with Miso, Rock shrimp Tempura, and Hamachi with Jalapeño; and the Austin-born Uchiko brings a non-traditional, but totally epic Japanese experience to the local palate.

Hit the hookah or the dance floor

Home to hookah lounges and late-night bars, the neighborhood is well versed in nightlife.

Those seeking a little more rowdy Sunday Funday action can score bottle service, lobster fries, and hookah at upscale sports bar Prospect Park, open ‘til 1am on Sundays; Cafe Mawal hosts night owls for belly dancing, DJ music, and hookah from apple and orange to watermelon and pineapple; the fun-loving Kamp brings the fun (and the hookah) to its indoor and outdoor space all day and night; and Uptown Lounge is another favorite.

Feel like dancing? After-hours nightclub Belvedere Uptown Park opens its dance floor for drinks and DJ beats from 9pm to 2am.
