  • Sugar Land Space Cowboys vs. Oklahoma City Dodgers at Constellation Field | Daily – Fireworks, Pride Night, and a slate of Astros and Space Cowboys swag highlight a six-game series against OKC that brings the Space Cowboys right up to the Independence Day holiday. $9 and up. Times vary.
  • The Riot Comedy Club presents J.F. Harris at Rudyard’s Pub | Friday & Saturday – The comedian and writer has appeared on Bill Burr presents The Ringers on Comedy Central, and written for stars like Will Smith and shows like Magic for Humans on Netflix. Now, he’ll take to the upstairs stage at Rudyard’s for back-to-back nights. $20 and up. Times vary.
  • Houston Symphony presents Summer Symphony Nights at Miller Outdoor Theatre | Friday & Saturday | FREE – Immerse yourself in a magical evening of captivating melodies as the world-renowned symphony takes the stage for two nights to perform Beethoven’s beloved Symphony No. 7 on Friday, with Gilmore Young Artist awardee Clayton Stephenson taking the stage for Gershwin’s jazzy Concerto in F on Saturday. 8:30pm.
  • Comedian Marlon Wayans at Houston Improv | Friday to Sunday – The superstar comedian, actor and Wayans brother headlines the Improv for three nights across 4th of July weekend. $160 for 4, and up. Times vary.
  • Sand Sculpture Showdown at East Beach | Saturday & Sunday | FREE – Watch the progress as three master sand sculpture artists compete to see who can deliver the most extraordinary display of creativity and craftsmanship on the beach. And try your hands at it yourself at free sand castle building lessons. 9am to 6pm both days; lessons at 11am, 1pm and 3pm.
  • Baytown’s 4th of July Celebration at Bicentennial Park | Monday & Independence Day, Tuesday | FREE – The City of Baytown hosts its two-day 4th of July event with a parade, a firework extravaganza, and live music by Grammy-winning artists Sunny Sauceda, Siggno, and LeAnn Rimes. A fireworks spectacular caps it off at 9:30pm. Monday 6pm to 10pm; Tuesday 4pm to 10pm.

  • AD Players presents Smoke on the Mountain at the George Theater | Daily | Opening Weekend – It’s 1938 in a small North Carolina town nestled in the Smoky Mountains, where the Saunders Family, a traveling musical group, is making an appearance after a five-year absence. This family-friendly musical incorporates two dozen bluegrass tunes folded around stories told by the Saunders family. This production runs through Sunday, July 23. $28 and up. Showtimes vary.
  • Phenomenal Woman at Ensemble Theatre | Daily | Opening Weekend – This musical showcases the remarkable life of the iconic writer and activist Maya Angelou, and demonstrates why her life and words continue to inspire. $53 and up. Showtimes vary.
  • Catastrophic Theatre presents Tamarie’s Totally True Revue (Plus Lies, Too) at MATCH | Daily | Ongoing – The irrepressible Tamarie Cooper is back for this year’s summer revue spectacular. Cooper and her band of misfits explore twisted encounters with Tinkerbell, Ben Franklin, Pinocchio, Kenny Rogers and more on this epic, all-musical journey. Tickets are pay-what-you-can; suggested $35. Showtimes vary.
  • Stages presents Thunder Knocking on the Door at the Gordy | Thursday, Friday & Sunday | Ongoing – This musical fable explores what happens to a small Alabama town when a blues guitar-playing stranger arrives, with a challenge that will pit family members against each other. $30 and up. Showtimes vary.
  • Wicked at Hobby Center | Daily | Final Weekend – This re-imagined story of the witches from Oz has become one of Broadway’s most-loved stories. With themes of the power of friendship and the courage to be different, this musical is a modern classic. $54 and up. Showtimes vary.
  • Stages presents Drag Wonderettes at the Gordy | Daily | Final Weekend The Marvelous Wonderettes gets a new twist, with this high drag performance featuring songs you know and love from the 1960s like “Stupid Cupid,” “The Shoop Shoop Song” and more. $30 and up. Showtimes vary.
  • The Servant of Two Masters at Alley Theatre | Daily | Final Weekend – This world premiere adaptation of Carlo Goldoni’s commedia dell’arte masterpiece is set in Venice where mayhem erupts after the servant Truffaldino devises a scheme to double his wages by serving two masters at the same time. This production runs through Sunday, July 2. $40 and up. Showtimes vary.
  • Stages presents The Legend of Georgia McBride at the Gordy | Friday to Sunday | Final Weekend – This world premiere explores the story of Casey, desperate the be the best Elvis impersonator ever. What happens when his audience disappears, he’s replaced with a drag act and the rent is due? $30 and up. Showtimes vary.

  • Kevin Anthony & G-Town in Concert at Menard Park | FREE – The Save the Locals Summer Concert Series continues this week with artists Kevin Anthony & G-Town, joined by the Working Girls. 6pm to 9pm.
  • RRR Movie Screening at MFAH – The Indian film epic that has become a global sensation gets a screening at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. $9. 6pm to 9pm.
