The historic 19th Street in the Heights is a commercial strip dreamed up by Oscar Martin Carter when developing the neighborhood in the 1890s.
Today, the walkable pocket around 19th and Ashland Streets is packed with antique shops and galleries, thrift stores and boutiques, cafes and restaurants, a historic theater turned concert venue, and plenty of Sunday Funday opportunities.

Do brunch justice
The chic and fresh Alice Blue is a neighborhood staple, with brunch offerings including challah french toast with berries and whipped cream, egg topped pork tostadas, housemade quiche, and spring farro risotto.
Continue west to score one of the hottest brunches in town at Squable, from hospitality vets and restaurateurs Bobby Heugel and Justin Yu. Start with the kitchen’s famous marinated mussels toast or brunch-perfect biscuits and jam, then dig into dishes like the oyster mushroom hash with poached eggs and jalapeno cream, or egg-topped brunch burger dripping with yolky egg, dijonaise, and the inevitable burger juice.
Over to the east side of Heights Boulevard you’ll find one of the city’s most exciting newcomers, Jūn, sitting near 20th and Columbia. The buzzy spot comes from talented chefs Evelyn Garcia (of Top Chef) and Henry Lu, exploring funky flavors to create New Asian American cuisine. Hit Sunday brunch service to enjoy dishes like the congee risotto with Chinese sausage or General Tso–glazed fried chicken & scallion waffle.

Over at the Third Coast–inspired Harold’s Restaurant, Bar and Terrace (another fixture of the street), you can hit the rooftop to drink and dine with a view.
At brunch, that means you can go for Nola-style beignets, Creole eggs benny, or the “Big Nasty Biscuit” piled with fried chicken, melty cheddar, and white pork sausage gravy.
Linger longer with cocktails like the Aperol Bow Tie Spritz or Argyle Ranch Water available by the glass or carafe, and enjoy an all-day menu (its open til 9pm) with eats from chicken & sausage gumbo and Gulf shrimp & grits to pulled pork tacos and 44 Farms ribeye.
Explore wines & olive oils at a tasting bar
We Olive and Wine Bar specializes in olive oils, balsamic vinegars, and small production wines.
Stop by to taste the oils, shop for dips, spreads, spices, sauces, and custom gifts, and enjoy wines, local craft beers and bites like prosciutto-wrapped dates, artichoke caper flatbreads and meatballs in truffle sauce.
Sunday happy hour runs from 6pm to close.
Eat, drink & hangout at the Heights Waterworks
Whether you’re feeling burgers and beers, a sake-fueled ramen slurping session, or a glass of wine and lemon gateau, the recently developed Heights Waterworks has something for you.
Sitting over at 19th and Nicholson Street, head here to enjoy treats from craft burger and beer slinger Hopdoddy Burger Bar, noodle shop JINYA Ramen Bar, French-inspired bistro and bakery Common Bond, and plant-based cuisine and cocktail spot The Ginger Mule.
Get fajitas & ‘ritas on the patio
Make your Sunday a tequila-soaked one by hitting the patio at Goode Co. Kitchen & Cantina.
Open from 11am to 9pm, the local favorite has all your Tex-Mex cravings—chips and queso, made-to-order guac, sloppy enchiladas, fajitas with all the fixin’s, and margaritas the size of the Lone Star.
