- Neil deGrasse Tyson: Delusions of Space Enthusiasts at Jones Hall | Monday, March 6 – The astrophysicist and television personality returns to Houston for an entertaining evening that examines the disconnect between where we think we should be in space exploration and the limitations of reality preventing it. $39 and up. 7:30pm.
- Crystalline Resonance: Final Fantasy Piano Concert at Hobby Center | Thursday, March 9 – Celebrating the 35th anniversary of the Final Fantasy video game series, this concert brings some of the acclaimed piano works to the Downtown stage, synced with video game footage and memorable moments of the franchise. $58 and up. 8pm.
- Houston Ballet presents Summer & Smoke at Wortham Center | Thursday, March 9 | Ongoing – In this first of two weekends, Houston Ballet offers a trio of works, including Stanton Welch’s Clear and Concerto Barocco—both set to the sounds of Bach—plus a world premiere co-production with American Ballet Theatre, Cathy Marston’s Summer and Smoke. $25 and up. - Houston Grand Opera presents Another City at Ecclesia Houston | Thursday, March 9 to Saturday, March 11 – In HGO’s 74th world premiere, this work explores the experience of homelessness, created in response to in-depth interviews and conversations with Houston’s community of unhoused people. $25. - Curiosity Lab & Theater presents Now That You’ve Seen Me Naked: Relationships Uncovered at MATCH | Thursday, March 9 to Sunday, March 12 – Two scientists are trying to win the Nobel Prize by uncovering the scientific code for love. But to keep their lab running, they need to attract grants and funding. See how they do it in this musical comedy. $35. Showtimes vary.
- Performing Arts Houston presents Ragamala Dance Company at Wortham Center | Friday, March 10 – The acclaimed Indian dance troupe offers an evening of culture and ritual with Fires of Varanasi: Dance of the Eternal Pilgrim, where humans merge with the divine. $29 and up. 7:30pm.
- Stages presents The Bride Or: Does This Dress Make Me Look Married? at the Gordy | Friday, March 10 | Ongoing – Beloved for her Late Night Catechism series, Denise Fennell returns to Stages, this time with the story of a bride who, hours before her wedding, ponders the meaning of her life and whether marriage is the right idea after all. This production runs through Sunday, May 14. $30 and up. Showtimes vary.
- Houston Symphony presents Brahms & Dvořák at Jones Hall | Friday, March 10 to Sunday, March 12 – Jonathon Heyward conducts the Symphony, joined by virtuoso pianist Sir Stephen Hough, through the uplifting Symphony No. 8 from Dvořák, and Brahm’s Piano Concerto No. 1. $29 and up. Times vary.
- Houston Chamber Choir presents Ancestor’s Dream at South Main Baptist Church | Saturday, March 11 – Aiming to move beyond spirituals, work songs and gospel music, this choral concert presents seldom-heard works of Black composers like Nathaniel Dett, Harry Burleigh and Undine Smith Moore. $40; $10 for students. 7:30pm.
- Jazzy Sundays: Matthew Hartnett & the Gumbo All-Stars at Emancipation Park | Sunday, March 12 | FREE – The second installment of the Jazzy Sundays series rolls on in Third Ward, with the hip-hop, jazz and brass band sounds of Louisiana-based Matthew Hartnett and the Gumbo All-Stars. Frank Nooney and the Zydeco Floaters open the show. 5pm to 7pm.
