  • Rachel Hawkins at Murder by the Book | Tuesday, January 3 | No Cover – The best-selling author of The Wife Upstairs and Reckless Girls signs her latest, The Villa, a gothic tale set in an Italian villa. Free to attend, but books for signing must be purchased from the bookstore. 6:30pm.
  • 111 Places for Kids in Houston That You Must Not Miss at Blue Willow Bookshop | Saturday, January 7 – What are the best places for family fun in Houston? Find out as authors Dana DuTerroil, Joni Fincham and Sara S. Murphy discuss their brand-new guide. Copies of the book are available for $23.95 online and may be picked up at the event. 4pm.
  • Faith in Literature Discussion at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church | Wednesday, January 11 | FREE – The group from the Westside church near Memorial Park will discuss Amor Towles’ The Lincoln Highway, connecting the novel to themes within Christian theology. 1pm to 2:30pm.
  • Writespace presents Renew Your Love For Writing | Saturday, January 14 | Virtual – This virtual workshop is designed to help writers get back into the groove, using exercises and prompts to help jumpstart their commitment to the craft for the coming year. Join other writers and feel a sense of community and re-centering. $60; rising to $70 closer to the event. 9:30am to 12:30pm.
  • Louise Marburg at Brazos Bookstore | Saturday, January 14 – The author discusses her latest collection of short stories, You Have Reached Your Destination, with Chris Candler, author of The Weight of a Piano. Free to attend; $20 for a copy of Marburg’s book. 6:30pm.
  • De’Shawn Charles & Kiese Laymon in Conversation at Kindred Stories | Wednesday, January 18 | FREE with RSVP – The author discusses his novel, Decent People, with Kiese Laymon, the author of Long Division. Free to attend, and both authors’ books will be available for purchase. A ticket that includes a copy of Decent People is $28. 7pm.
  • Heather Cabot in Conversation at Congregation Emanu El | Wednesday, January 18 – The award-winning journalist discusses her new book, Level Up, and the entrepreneurial lessons she learned from Stacey Abrams and Laura Hodgson. $12.50 and up. 7:30pm.
  • Inprint presents Yiyun Li & Matthew Salesses Reading at Congregation Emanu El | Monday, January 23 – The authors will read from their new novels, The Book of Goose and The Sense of Wonder. Following the reading, the pair will discuss their works and approaches to writing with Brenda Paynado. $5. 7:30pm.
