In our Must Do Things Around Greater Houston series, we take a look at Houston’s vast array of communities, neighborhoods and destinations to bring you five fun, tasty, surprising and enticing reasons you should give each one a visit.

Located in Fayette County and about 95 miles from Downtown Houston, Round Top is a “big small town” that sits in the beautiful Texas Hill Country.

It’s well known as an antiquing destination, as well as a perfect, family-friendly escape from the hustle and bustle of the big cities.

Here are five great ways to spend your time in the charming town of Round Top:

Hunt for antique treasures

Round Top is well-known as a bucket list destination for antiquers and HGTV addicts, with year-round haunts and big antique shows showcasing everything from old Texas art, jewelry and vintage furniture to paintings, textiles, and collectibles.

Shop the town squares (like Henkel Square and Bybee Square), shop your heart out at the bi-annual Round Top Antique Show, and look out for pop-ups and trunk shows from favorites including Abbieland Antiques & RV, Grace’s Treasure Hunt, and Marburger Farm Antique Show.

Start with a pie at Royers Round Top Cafe

Smothered steak, jalapeño cheese soup, and shrimp-stuffed quail. It’s all on the menu at Texan icon Royers Round Top Cafe, which has been serving the community for over 30 years. But if you’re saving room for dessert, you may want to start your meal off with a slice—or an ap”pie”tizer, as the menu suggests. There’s strawberry rhubarb, not-too-sweet pecan, and the Texas Trash pie, made with chocolate chips, pretzels, coconut, caramel, and graham crackers.

If you’re looking for just the pie, and maybe some coffee and breakfast, you can also check out sister café Royers Pie Haven.

Unwind at Prost on Block 29

Intimate wine bar and shop Prost on Block 29 is housed in Round Top’s most historic building, offering a cozy cottage atmosphere and a beautiful outdoor patio perfect for sipping wine and nibbling on artisanal cheeses, charcuterie, and farm-to-table veggies.
