- AD Players presents The Sound of Music at the George Theater | Opens Wednesday, July 6 – The beloved Rodgers and Hammerstein musical is the story of a nun named Maria who is sent to be the governess for the von Trapp family in the last years before the Nazi invasion of Austria. Against a backdrop of the world changing, Maria finds love, holds fast to her faith and discovers her true purpose. $30 and up. Showtimes vary.
- Main Street Theater for Youth presents Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at MATCH | Saturday, July 9 to Sunday, July 31 – This family-friendly musical is the story of a magical car and a family that embarks on the adventure of a lifetime. Featuring songs by the Sherman Brothers (of Mary Poppins and other Disney classics), this is sure to delight young and young-at-heart alike. $20 and up. Showtimes vary.
- Vertigo: One, One & One at Miller Outdoor Theatre | Saturday, July 16 | FREE – Take in a multi-sensory performance from Israeli-based Vertigo Dance Company when they present One, One & One, which sees dancers atop a dirt-covered stage, exploring our connection to the natural world. 8pm.
- Houston Shakespeare Festival presents King Lear & Cymbeline at Miller Outdoor Theatre | Opens Thursday, July 28 | FREE – Presented in repertory, these two classic works showcase the Bard at his best. Lear is the story of an addled king who disavows the wrong daughter and is an exploration of loyalty, family and fear; Cymbeline is a dark fairytale romance featuring a princess, her banished secret husband, a wicked stepmother, secret plots, mistaken identity and other Shakespearean hijinks. Each work is performed on different nights. Performances at 8:15pm.
- Stages presents Dream: The Music of the Everly Brothers at the Gordy | Opens Thursday, July 28 – With their tight harmonies and songs that unmistakably captured the innocence of young love, the Everly Brothers left an enduring legacy on music, which Dream explores through their story and 25 of their songs. $30 and up.
