Top 10 Things To Do for Kids & Families in Houston This Week

  • Goats at the Houston Arboretum and Nature Center | Monday May 9 & Tuesday, May 10 | FREE – Come watch the adorable goats do what they do best, eat. They have a job to do at the Houston Arboretum and Nature Center through Tuesday and that is to go to town on thorny dewberry and small saplings in the 2.3-acre area. 7am to 6:30pm.
  • Blippi the Musical at Bayou Music Center | Friday, May 13 – Let your littles learn about the world around them while singing and dancing with the colorful, energetic Blippi on stage. $32 and up. 6pm.
  • Space Jam Movie Screening at Heritage Park | Friday, May 13 | FREE – Set up your chairs and catch a family fave movie that pairs toons, goons, and basketball when the LeBron James–starring film, Space Jam, gets a screening in Conroe. 8pm.
  • Houston Ballet at Miller Outdoor Theatre | Friday, May 13 & Saturday, May 14 | FREE – Miller Outdoor Theatre welcomes Houston Ballet for two nights of a free dance showcase, highlighting the company’s internationally recognized company of dancers. 8pm.
  • Hire Houston Youth On-The-Spot Hiring Event at Acres Home Multi-Service Center | Saturday, May 14 | FREE – Mayor Sylvester Turner’s Hire Houston Youth initiative, in partnership with the Greater Houston McDonald’s owners/operators, hosts a series of job and resource fairs through Saturday, June 11, 2022 in an effort to employ thousands of Houston area youth, ages 16 to 24, this summer. Positions are available from a wide range of employers, including McDonald’s, the City of Houston and United Airlines, among others. 10am to 2pm.
  • AAPI Festival at Houston Public Library–Downtown | Saturday, May 14 | FREE – Head to the outdoor Barbara Bush Literacy Plaza to celebrate the Houston Asian American Pacific Islander community with dance performances, bilingual storytime, crafts, and more. 11am to 1pm. 
  • Young Audiences of Houston presents The Moving Body at Levy Park | Saturday, May 14 | FREE – Get those little bodies moving as the kiddos learn about the human body and explore creative movement and the craft of dance. Teaching artist Alonzo Moore will lead the class through basic dance and movement fundamentals to focus on story and play while building skills in self-awareness, self-management, and other key lessons. 1pm.
  • Disney’s Encanto Movie Screening at Sugar Land Town Square | Saturday, May 14 | FREE – Talk about Bruno all you want during the newest kiddie fave, Encanto at Sugar Land Town Square. Be sure to bring your own chairs to stay comfortable during the screening. 7:45pm.
  • Galveston Family Beach Challenge at East Beach | Sunday, May 15 | FREE – Get competitive as a family at a larger-than-life obstacle course on Galveston’s East Beach. Families will vie for gift cards and VIP tickets to Galveston attractions by competing through 14 stations for kids and adults, including games like bean bag toss, a life-size Battleship, limbo, volley balloon, and more. Games are designed for families of 4 or more. Registration required; ages 8 and up. 11am to 4:30pm.
  • Family Day: Over the Moon at Bayou Bend | Sunday, May 15 | FREE – Explore our relationship to the moon and other celestial bodies at this family-friendly afternoon event that includes a workshop from Space Center Houston, lawn games, art-making activities, puppetry, a magic performance and more. 1pm to 5pm.
