Top 10 Things To Do for Kids & Families in Houston This Week

  • A Texan Toddler Tuesday with Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo at Discovery Green | Tuesday, February 22 | FREE – Dress up your cowboys and cowgirls for a yeehaw good time at Discovery Green to kick off the Rodeo season. Hear the children’s story by Zane Carruth, Abella Goes to the Rodeo, take in a roping demonstration from members of the HLSR, and meet a rodeo clown. 11am to 1pm.
  • Shadow Puppet Theatre presents Dinosaur Mardi Gras at Woodlands Children’s Museum | Thursday, February 24 A great way for kids to be introduced to storytelling through interaction and animated shadows, the Shadow Puppet Theatre takes on Dinosaur Mardi Gras by Dianne de Las Casas, about some dinos that join in on the celebration during carnival time in New Orleans. Included with general admission; $7 for ages 1 and up. 11am.
  • 2022 Mardi Gras of Southeast Texas at the Event Centre in Beaumont | Thursday, February 24 to Sunday, February 27 Mardi Gras of Southeast Texas returns to downtown Beaumont with a four-day outdoor celebration of all-things-Mardi Gras at an outdoor, open-air fair ground that features a bustling carnival with games and rides, parades through downtown Beaumont, live music with special headliners, festive foods and more. Tickets range from $10 to $15. Times vary.
  • Graeme’s Run at No Label Brewery in Katy | Saturday, February 26 – Bring the entire family out for a day of running and fun to support a great cause. Graeme’s Run raises money to support families by funding life-saving congenital heart defect research. All registrants will receive a Graeme’s Run t-shirt and all adults will receive a Graeme’s Run pint glass. Kids will also enjoy face-painting, a video game truck, Fairy Hair, baby goats from ROSE Therapeutic Farm, and more. $40; $20 for ages 12 and under. 9am to 2pm.
  • Beads & Bark in the Park at League Park | Saturday, February 26 | FREE – In League City, this first annual gumbo competition takes place alongside a pet costume contest, live music, food trucks, crafts and kids activities, and more. Free to attend; $5 for entry in Dog Costume Contest; $15 for gumbo sampling wristband. 10am to 2pm.
  • Seussabration at Children’s Museum Houston | Saturday, February 26 – Enjoy a day built for play as you celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday at Children’s Museum Houston. Use your imagination to have a blast with special Seuss activities like a Dr. Seuss Read Aloud Story Time, crafting your very own Horton ears and themed bookmarks, and more. Included with general admission; $12 for ages 1 and up. 10am to 6pm.
  • 3rd Annual H-Town Sports Day at Central Green Park | Saturday, February 26 | FREE – The Katy park at La Centerra hosts its third annual event, bringing together professional athletes, mascots from Houston’s sports teams, cheerleaders and more. This year’s event also feature NASCAR racer (and Katy native) Ty Hymel, who will bring along his car for the crowd to check out. Noon to 4pm.
  • Party Gras at Sugar Land Town Square | Saturday, February 26 | FREE – The community comes together for a family-friendly, feel-good celebration in Sugar Land. Enjoy live entertainment, food and drink from Town Square restaurants, crafts and games, plus Second Line music and DJ tunes from Flash Gordon Parks. 3pm to 9pm.
  • Mardi Gras on Main in La Porte | Saturday, February 26 | FREE – The annual family-friendly Mardi Gras street festival returns to Five Points in La Porte. Take to the Mardi Gras market, enjoy food and drink vendors (including beer and wine), a kids’ zone, roaming stilt walkers, caricatures, an Umbrella Parade, and more. 6pm to 10pm.
  • Garden Railroad Fun Day at Rosenberg Railroad Museum | Sunday, February 27 – The train lovers in your life can watch in amazement at the various types of trains on Railroad Fun Day. Steam engines, circus trains, patriotic trains—or everyone’s favorite, Thomas—could make an exciting appearance. Plus, the museum will host fun seasonal activities for the kids. $6; free for ages under 2. 1pm to 4pm.
