- Yaga’s Chili Fest Beerfooter 5K Fun Run in Galveston −Throw on your goofiest attire at a tongue-in-cheek run along the beach before the Chili Fest starts to spice things up on the Strand. $56. 9am.
- Photography Workshop at Levy Park | FREE – Brush up your photog skills at a free hands-on session organized by Houston Center of Photography, focusing on composition, lighting, and other techniques. 9am.
- 13th Annual Yaga’s Chili Quest & Beer Fest on the Strand − After down-sizing for 2021, Yaga’s popular, early-year chili and beer tasting festival returns to Galveston’s Stand in its tastiest form. $12. 10am to 6pm.
- 26th Annual Martin Luther King Day Celebration at Children’s Museum Houston – Honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with messages of unity, justice, and peace at Children’s Museum Houston. This year’s celebration includes a jazz ensemble performance, peace march, awards ceremony, and an all-day display of the “I Have a Dream” speech. $5 per person. 11am to 2pm.
- Saturday Sketching in the Galleries at MFAH – Kids and families explore and practice sketching techniques in the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston’s galleries, using the art on view for inspiration. $10, in addition to general admission. 11:30am.

- 50th Annual Chevron Houston Marathon in Downtown | FREE to Watch – Though you might not be able to lace up for Houston’s signature run event, you can still celebrate the runners as they pound pavement from Downtown through the city’s districts like Montrose, Medical Center, the Galleria, Memorial Park, and back again to finish at Avenida de las Americas. Check out the marathon course and find your spot to cheer on thousands of participants. 7am.
- Karbach Houston Marathon Noise Making Party on Allen Parkway | FREE – Show your support—and offer Karbach brewskis to runners while you enjoy your own—at a late stage cheering-on celebration for the Chevron Houston Marathon. Expect parking to be hard the later the morning gets. 8am to noon.
- Plant Market at Tenfold Coffee Company | No Cover – Find a forever home, or simply browse and learn at a special pop-up market showcasing a diverse array of plants for newbies and accomplished plant shepherds. 11am to 4pm.

- Houston MLK Festival at City Hall | FREE – In front of Downtown’s City Hall, the MLK Festival will kick off immediately after the 44th Annual parade and feature live music, kid-friendly fun, craft vendors, performances, and special guests. 11am to 5pm.
