- Vicki Meek: The Journey to Me at Art League Houston | Opens Friday | FREE – This solo exhibition of Dallas-based artist Vicki Meek marks her recognition as Art League Houston’s 2021 Texas Artist of the Year. Three site-specific installations track her development as an artist, with focus on cultural memory, identity, and social issues in relation to the African diaspora, taken with hope and emphasis on collective healing. 9am to 5pm.
- Texas Gatorfest at Fort Anahuac Park | Friday to Sunday – Celebrate the American Alligator at a family-friendly festival that features live alligator displays provided by Texas Parks and Wildlife, alongside specialty vendors, live music, food trucks, and an opportunity to get an up-close look at this reptile. Tickets range from $10 to $15; $5 for ages 6 to 12. Times vary.
- Houston Astros vs. Los Angeles Angels at Minute Maid Park | Friday to Sunday – Led by the league leader in home runs, Shohei Ohtani, the Angels stop by Houston for a three-game series. Tickets range from around $15 to more than $175, but you may find better or cheaper seats on the TicketNetwork marketplace. Times vary.
- Jay Pharoah at Houston Improv | Friday & Saturday – Actor and comedian Jay Pharaoh, known for six seasons of his stunning impressions on Saturday Night Live, heads to the Houston Improv for back-to-back nights of back-to-back sets. Tickets are sold in groups and range from $60 for 2 to $240 for 6. Times vary.
- Pitbull with Iggy Azalea at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion | Friday – Mr. Worldwide arrives in the Woodlands for a night of club hits and fan faves while on the I Feel Good Tour, joined by Australian rapper Iggy Azalea. Tickets range from $29.50 to $499.50, but you may find better or cheaper tickets using the TicketNetwork online marketplace. 8pm.
- Proud Tina: The Ultimate Tribute to Tina Turner at Miller Outdoor Theatre | Friday & Saturday | FREE – Take in an electrifying concert performance featuring all the hits of the legendary Tina Turner, including “Simply the Best,” “What’s Love Got to Do With It,” “Proud Mary,” “River Deep Mountain High,” and so much more when Proud Tina presents back-to-back nights of showstoppers and energetic thrills. 8pm both nights.
- College Football: Rice Owls vs. Houston Cougars at Rice Stadium | Saturday – The 40th Bayou Bucket Classic brings the Rice Owls and Houston Cougars together again for another edition of this intra-city rivalry. Tickets range from $42 to more than $80, but you may find better or cheaper seats using the TicketNetwork online marketplace. 5:30pm.
- Ronny Chieng at House of Blues | Saturday – Appearing as Jon Jon in the newest Marvel blockbuster, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, as well as a senior correspondent on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, the award-winning Malaysian comedian stops by Downtown’s House of Blues for two sets of uproarious comedy. Tickets are $40, but you may find better, cheaper, or hard-to-get seats using the TicketNetwork online marketplace. 7pm and 9:30pm.
- Body Worlds & The Cycle of Life at Houston Museum of Natural Science | Ends Sunday – The latest edition of the popular traveling exhibit features real human bodies that have been preserved through the process of plastination. Designed by Body Worlds’ creative and conceptual designer, Dr. Angelina Whalley, it demonstrations the human body through the span of time and shows visitors the latest findings in anatomy, longevity, and health. $30; $21 for ages 3 to 11; $15 for members. 9am to 5pm.
- Houston Texans vs. Jacksonville Jaguars at NRG Stadium | Sunday – The Texans open the season at home against a division rival that includes No. 1 draft pick Trevor Lawrence and famed college coach Urban Meyer, who begins his NFL career as a head coach. Tickets range from $36 to over $250, but you may find better, cheaper, or hard-to-get seat using the TicketNetwork online marketplace. Noon.
- Diunna Greenleaf in Concert at Jazzy Sundays at Emancipation Park | Sunday | FREE – Emancipation Park Conservancy is celebrating the legacy and evolution of jazz music in Houston with its Jazzy Sundays series. Gospel singer and native Houstonian, Diunna Greenleaf, will be headlining this week’s event. 3pm to 6pm.
- Stages presents OMG Festival: Outdoor Movies at the Gordy | Sunday – Take your movie day outdoors to the OMG Festival presented by Stages. Enjoy the festival’s final screening of the weekend, Disney’s The Lion King, plus check out the vendors, food trucks and lawn games that will also be on site. Tickets are $10. 5pm.
