- Family Storytime & Craft at Levy Park | Tuesday, April 13 | FREE – Grab a blanket and spread out for a socially distanced storytime reading, followed by a craft that accompanies the featured book. All craft supplies are included as part of this free program. 10am.
- Downtown Farmers Market at Houston’s First Baptist Church in Downtown | Thursday, April 15 | No Cover – Near Toyota Center, this community farmers market presented by Houston’s First Baptist Church and Your Neighborhood Farmers Market brings together a wide selection of locally grown fruits and veggies, artisan foods, grass-fed fresh meats and more on the third Thursday of each month. 3pm to 7pm.
- Campfire Nights at Nature Discovery Center in Bellaire | Friday, April 16 – Snag a spot next to the campfire at this family night that features hotdogs and s’mores, plus a guided night hike through the shady wetland park. $350 for a group of 10 or less. 6pm to 8pm.
- Let’s DisDance with Rhythm India Dance Co. at Sugar Land Town Square | Friday, April 16 | FREE – Get everyone’s hips moving at this all-ages dance class which teaches the steps for a popular Bollywood dance, held outdoors at Sugar Land Town Square. 6:30 to 7:30pm.
- Opening Day: Houston Dynamo FC vs San Jose Earthquakes at BBVA Stadium | Friday, April 16 – Watch as the Dynamo take to the pitch for a brand new year in their opening game of the 2021 season. Tickets range from $48 to over $120, but you may find better or cheaper seats using the TicketNetwork online marketplace. 7pm.
- Hangar Hang Out at CAF Houston Wing Museum & Hangar | Saturday, April 17 | FREE – The West Houston museum and hangar is open on the first and third Saturday of each month, welcoming visitors to view its collection of World War II-era aircraft and unique collection of memorabilia and artifacts. 10am to 3pm.
- 2021 Rail Day at Rosenberg Railroad Museum | Saturday, April 17 – Hop aboard for a day that will please rail enthusiasts of all ages, with model trains on display, museum exhibits, games, crafts, food vendors, guided tours and more at this family-friendly event. $8; free for ages 2 and under. 10am to 5pm.
- Earth Day Celebration at Houston Arboretum & Nature Center | Saturday, April 17 | FREE – Love on Mother Nature and help the kids understand how to take care of our Earth. Explore informative booths, nature hikes, fun displays in the Discovery Room, and Earth-friendly take-home activities for Earth Day at Houston Arboretum & Nature Center. This event is open to all ages. 10am to 4pm.
- Midtown Houston presents Virtual Family Capoeira | Saturday, April 17 | FREE | Virtual – Follow along with a virtual family Capoeira class, where you’ll learn about this unique Afro-Brazilian martial art that develops discipline, coordination, strength and rhythm. This class is open to families of all skill levels. 10am to 11am.
- Spring Breakout & Extreme Breakout Aerial Adventures at Big Rivers Waterpark | Saturday, April 17 and Sunday, April 18 – Big Rivers Waterpark in New Caney offers wooded playgrounds with aerial activities, including zip lines, climbing walls, challenge courses, and more, along with Spring Breakout activities including Wild Isle (an inflatable obstacle course on a lake), axe throwing, archery, petting zoo, giant maze, gemstone mining, and more. Most Spring Breakout activities are available with general admission, however not everything is. Passes are $59.99, but a limited number are discounted to $42 on select days. 11am to 5pm.
- Family Magic & Comedy for All Ages with Carter Blackburn at Houston Improv | Saturday, April 17 – Enjoy a mystical afternoon that bridges comedy and magic with a family-friendly set from Carter Blackburn that features a mixture of audience participation, magic tricks, illusions, juggling, sleight of hand, and more at Houston Improv. $20 for two people; $40 for four; $60 for six. 2pm.
- Earth Day at Discovery Green | Sunday, April 18 | FREE – Commemorate Earth Day with a celebration in the heart of Downtown when Discovery Green Park hosts a screening of short films about Houston’s environment, a panel discussion examining the freeze of February 2021, and live painting as local artists complete murals throughout the park. Noon to 5pm.
- International Kids Fest at Trader’s Village | Sunday, April 18 | FREE – Near Beltway 8 and Highway 290, Kids Fest offers an afternoon of exciting games and activities, interactive shows, live music, acrobats, magicians, clowns, face painters and more. Admission is free, though some events require small fees. Parking is $5. Noon to 4pm.
- Current Museum Exhibits & Art Installations in Houston | Ongoing | Some FREE – Across the Museum District and throughout the Greater Houston area, world-class museums and installations are offering up fascinating and engaging exhibitions that are ticketed or free. Social Distancing & COVID-19 Precautions
As we enter into the vaccination phase of the COVID-19 pandemic, medical experts still advise that we have a way to go before we achieve herd immunity and can safely resume pre-pandemic activities. In the meantime, you can remain vigilant in protecting yourself against the coronavirus by continuing to wear face masks when in public spaces, practice social distancing of at least six feet, limit your touching of surfaces, and frequently use hand sanitizer or soap and water to keep your hands clean.
While the Governor of Texas has lifted mandatory mask orders and capacity limits, most businesses are still requiring face masks to enter and enforcing reduced capacity. Familiarize with your destination’s policies ahead of time and please respect their public safety precautions.
