Take flight with Just Plane Fun: Spring Break at Lone Star Flight Museum

Launch into your 2021 Spring Break with nine days of special programing and fun, including the standout Ellington Day, with Lone Star Flight Museum’s Just Plane Fun from Saturday, March 13 to Sunday, March 21, 2021.

There will be crafts, science activities, talks from pilots and flight crews, free flight simulator sessions, live bird appearances with Wildlife Center of Texas, a celebration of Ellington Field, and more.

Plus, throughout Spring Break, Lone Star Flight Museum will be giving away an Aviator membership every day.

Ellington Day

Lone Star Flight Museum’s Spring Break events lead up to Ellington Day, a special event celebrating Ellington Field, on Saturday, March 20, 2021.

Visitors can expect extra aircraft and vehicles; appearances from military, science, and aviation experts; info booths, demos, a presentation about Ellington’s storied aviation history; and more.

Saturday, March 13, 2021

  • Howard 250 Tours | Members Only – Explore the inside of LSFM’s newest plane, the rare and last flying Howard 250. 10am to noon.
  • Warbird Rides – Plane rides are available for purchase for 1 to 3 passengers, or takeoffs can be watched from the museum’s ramp for free. 10am to 2pm.
  • Noon Natural Flyers – Meet feathered “winged” friends from the Wildlife Center of Texas in an interactive program. 11am to noon.
  • Bird Seeder Take & Make – Kids will learn to make a bird seeder that they can take it home. 11am to noon.
  • Free Simulators & Mooney Hangar Tour – Learn what it’s like to be a pilot by taking the stick in flight simulators and learn the Mooney Hangar and how it functioned. 11am to 3pm
  • Marshalling Class – Learn the signals and motions that direct and send off aircraft around the world, then try your hand at marshalling on our ramp. Classes at noon, 1pm, and 2pm.

  • Free Simulators & Mooney Hangar Tour – Learn what it’s like to be a pilot by taking the stick in flight simulators and learn the Mooney Hangar and how it functioned. Noon to 3pm
  • Hangar Talk – Learn aviation history standing under the wings of LSFM’s prized aircraft. 1pm.

Monday, March 15, 2021

  • Mechanic Monday – Meet with LSFM’s aircraft mechanics and learn the ropes of keeping classic and modern aircraft flying. 10am to 2pm.
  • No Touch Tables – Take a look at—but don’t touch—really cool aviation artifacts and machinery. 10am to 3pm.
  • Hangar Talk – Learn aviation history standing under the wings of LSFM’s prized aircraft. 1pm.

Tuesday, March 16, 2021

  • Helicopter Take & Make – Kids will learn to make a bird seeder that they can take it home. 10am to 1pm.
  • No Touch Tables – Take a look at—but don’t touch—really cool aviation artifacts and machinery. 10am to 3pm.
  • AV8R Experiments – Kids can indulge in hands-on fun that’s all about science and aviation. 11am to 11:30am.
  • BT-13 View – Get up close and personal with LSFM’s newest military trainer, the BT-13 Valiant. 11am to 1pm.
  • Hangar Talk – Learn aviation history standing under the wings of LSFM’s prized aircraft. 1pm.

St. Patrick’s Day, Wednesday, March 17, 2021

  • No Touch Tables – Take a look at—but don’t touch—really cool aviation artifacts and machinery. 10am to 3pm.
  • Saint Patrick’s Day Gold Hunt – Kids can find a pot of gold, collect a coin, and win a prize. 10am to 4pm.
  • Hangar Talk – Learn aviation history standing under the wings of LSFM’s prized aircraft. 1pm.

Thursday, March 18, 2021

  • $5 General Admission for All Visitors All Day – Museum members may still visit for free. 10am to 5pm.
  • Howard 250 Tours – Explore the inside of LSFM’s newest plane, the rare and last flying Howard 250. 10am to noon.
  • Free Simulators & Mooney Hangar Tour – Learn what it’s like to be a pilot by taking the stick in flight simulators and learn the Mooney Hangar and how it functioned. 11am to 3pm.
  • Lil’ Pilot’s Make & Take – Kids can design and color their own pilot’s uniform. 11am to 1pm. 
  • Flight Crew Thursday – Hear from a professional pilot and s LSFM volunteer pilot on what it’s like to fly vintage and commercial liners. 11am and 1:30pm. 

Friday, March 19, 2021

  • Story Time – Little kids are invited to hear a fun flying story in LSFM Flight Academy. 10am to 10:30am.
  • Battleship Texas Gun Trailer – Get up close and personal with some awesome and historic WWII hardware from Battleship Texas in La Porte. 10am to 2pm.
  • Howard 250 Tours – Explore the inside of LSFM’s newest plane, the rare and last flying Howard 250. 10am to noon; and again from 1pm to 3pm.
  • Eggstronaut Drop! – Participants will build a safety structure from recycled materials to protect their eggs and drop it from the museum’s second floor balcony to test their handiwork. 11am to 2pm.

Ellington Day, Saturday, March 20, 2021

  • Ellington Day  Lone Star Flight Museum celebrates all things Ellington Field; it’s history, aviation, partners, and planes. Extra aircraft and vehicles will be on display, and military and NASA representatives will be on on hand. Plus visitors can explore info booths, demonstrations, and more. 10am to 4pm.

Just Plane Fun: Spring Break 2021 at Lone Star Flight Museum

  • Times: Monday through Saturday 10am to 5pm; Sunday noon to 5pm. Most special Spring Break activities happen between 10am and 2pm or 3pm.
