  • All-you-can-eat Menudo, Birria & Pozole New Year’s Day at La Calle Tacos Recover from the previous night’s festivities with all-you-can-eat menudo, birria, and pozole (all known for their hangover-curing abilities), courtesy of La Calle Tacos. Prefer the hair-of-the-dog approach? Sip a bloody mary, mimosa, or michelada made with the restaurant’s extensive Mexican beer selection. Tickets for the all-you-can-eat buffet start $15.99. 7am.
  • Run Houston! at Sam Houston Race Park – Get started on your New Year’s resolutions with Run Houston!, which offers a 10K, 5K, and Kids 1K race at Sam Houston Race Park. Registration includes free, high-resolution race photos, a T-shirt, a finisher’s medal, and access to the post-race party with food, drinks, and awards. The 10K and 5K are $50, while the Kids 1K costs $30. 8:30am to noon.
  • New Year’s Day Brunch Buffet at Indianola Ensure a lucky new year with a buffet of black-eyed peas, collard greens, cornbread, pork, pomegranate and more, all courtesy of Indianola. Tickets are $55; $25 for ages 3 through 12; free for ages under 3. 10am to 4pm.
  • Lifetime Commitment Day 5K at CityCentre Commit to a healthier, happier you in the new year with a 5K race at Lifetime Fitness in CityCentre. Tickets cost $30; $15 for ages 13 and under. 10am.
  • Hangover Cure Brunch at B.B. Lemon Kick off the new year with live music from John Vincent Curry and classic brunch eats at B. B. Lemon. Menu prices vary. Reservations recommended. 11am.
  • New Year’s Day at Little Woodrow’s Bellaire | No Cover Recover from the night’s festivities with football and bloody marys at Little Woodrow’s Bellaire. Noon.
  • 2019 A Year In Review Trivia at Under the Radar Brewery | No Cover – Revisit the past 12 months with this special trivia event featuring questions about 2019’s most notable events, moments, and celebrity gossip at Under the Radar Brewery. The best team name and winning trivia team will both win prizes. 7:30pm to 10pm.

  • Free Family Night at Children’s Museum of Houston | FREE – Take advantage of free admission to the Children’s Museum of Houston, including access to all of their hands-on exhibits plus a wide variety of programming every Thursday evening. 5pm.
  • First Thursday on Mid Main Browse an art garden and market, listen to live music, and sip drinks from Deep Eddy Vodka and Saint Arnold Brewing Company during the monthly First Thursday celebration at Mid Main. Donations of $5 are suggested. 6pm to 10pm.
  • Johnny Nicholas & Cindy Cashdollar in Concert at McGonigel’s Mucky Duck Jam out to full-spectrum Americana during a live show by Johnny Nicholas and Cindy Cashdollar, who bring their blend of blues, cajun, swing, folk, and barrelhouse rock ’n’ roll to McGonigel’s Mucky Duck. Tickets are $25 in advance; $28 at the door. 7pm.
  • Hand Lettering Classes at Honey Art Cafe Master the art of hand lettering with markers during this one-hour, introductory class at Honey Art Cafe. During the BYOB class, you’ll learn three-to-four different print and cursive fonts. Tickets are $35. 7pm.
  • Toy Story 4 Movie Screening at Discovery Green | FREE Join Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and the rest of the gang with a free, outdoor screening of Pixar’s Toy Story 4 at Discovery Green. 7pm to 10pm.
  • Slimez in Concert at Stereo Live | FREE Hit the dance floor for a live set by dubstep DJ Slimez at Stereo Live. Tickets are free with RSVP. 10pm.
