  • Woodforest Bank TRI at Northshore Park Cheer on athletes as they run, bike, and swim their way through Northshore Park in the 16th annual Woodforest Bank Triathlon. Drawing more than 1,200 participants, the race concludes with an awards party complete with music, food, and drinks. Registration starts at $120. 7am to 11:30am.
  • 5th Annual Chalk Walk in Downtown Friendswood | FREE (Postponed) Admire the work of local artists creating original chalk illustrations on the streets of downtown Friendswood during the fifth annual Chalk Walk. 8am to 2pm. Update 5/10/19: This event will be rescheduled in Fall 2019
  • Art on Wheels at Buffalo Bayou Park Hop on a bike and cruise around Buffalo Bayou Park while BBP tour guide Andrew Groocock points out various works of art along the waterway. $10. 9am to 10:30am.
  • The Market at Sawyer Yards | No Cover Shop a curated selection of specialty foods, folk art, and artisan crafts during this market hosted by The Washington Avenue Arts District. 11am to 5pm.
  • Love & Make’s Bath Bomb Making Workshop in Rice Village Create your own luxurious, scented bath bomb at this DIY workshop, hosted by Love & Make in Rice Village. The family-friendly activity allows crafters to incorporate essential oils and experiment with fun colors. $55. 11am.
  • AsiaFest 2019 at Asia Society Texas Center | FREE Celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month with an international bazaar, live performances, arts and crafts, authentic cuisine, and live demonstrations at the annual AsiaFest. 11am to 5pm.
  • Heights Mercantile Mother’s Day Market | No Cover Gift your mom with a unique find from the Heights Mercantile Mother’s Day Market, which showcases wares and creations from local merchants and artisans on the promenade at Heights Mercantile. 11am to 6pm.
  • Playhouse on the Prairie presents Oz: There’s No Place Like It at Prohibition Theatre Catch a family-friendly performance of Oz: There’s No Place Like It, an immersive theatrical experience presented by Playhouse on the Prairie. The play follows the story of Dorothy once she returns to Kansas from the land of Oz, only to find that home isn’t quite what it once was. Tickets are $20, but limited discounted $10 tickets are available for most shows. Noon.
  • GCBA presents Houston Blues Festival 2019 The Gulf Coast Blues Association presents the Houston Blues Festival 2019 at VFW Post 2427 in Tomball, featuring family-friendly blues music all day long. The show will be headlined by Tab Benoit, with additional performances by Malford Milligan,  Buddy Whittington, and Kara Grainger. Tickets are $25 for general admission; $45 for reserved seating. Noon.
  • Microchip Your Mutt at Levy Park | FREE Bring your furry friends to Levy Park for a dog-friendly event with food trucks, live music, pet-centric vendors, and free microchipping services for your pet. Noon to 6pm.
  • Houston Taco & Margs Crawl on Washington Ave Indulge in plenty of Mexican food and drink on the Houston Taco & Margs Crawl, which takes participants through several Washington Avenue bars, including Clutch Bar, Kung Fu Saloon, Lincoln Bar, The Standard, Handlebar, and Daisy Dukes. $17.99. 2pm.
  • 6th Annual Houston Whiskey Festival (Postponed) Sip and socialize among fellow whiskey enthusiasts at the Houston Whiskey Festival at Bayou Place. Attendees can enjoy educational seminars, a cigar lounge, live music, light bites, and recommendations from popular distilleries. Early bird tickets start at $45. 6pm to 10pm. Due to heavy rains, this event has been postponed to Saturday, June 29, 2019. All tickets previously purchased for this event will be honored for the new date.
  • Sugar Land Skeeters vs. Long Island Ducks at Constellation Field Root for the Sugar Land Skeeters when they take on the Long Island Ducks at Constellation Field. Tickets start at $8. 6pm.
  • Mother’s Day Soul Music Fest at Smart Financial Centre Treat mom to an evening of soul music with a live concert featuring The O’Jays, Stephanie Mills, Con Funk Shun, and El DeBarge at Smart Financial Centre. Tickets start at $49.50, but you may find cheaper or better seats on TicketNetwork’s online resale market. 7pm.
  • Simon and Garfunkel Live in Central Park (Revisited) at Miller Outdoor Theatre | FREE Relive the magic of Simon and Garfunkel’s 1981 reunion in Central park with a free performance by the award-winning recording artists, Lee Lessack and Johnny Rodgers, who will recreate the magical night at Miller Outdoor Theatre. 8pm.
  • Apollo Chamber Players present Roots at MATCH Catch the conclusion of the Apollo Chamber Players’ eleventh season with Roots, a unique program boasting the works of composers who are inspired by, but no longer live in their homeland. Tickets start at $10. 8pm.
  • Stargazing with Houston Astronomical Society at Discovery Green | FREE Gaze at the stars alongside members of the Houston Astronomical Society, who will happily point out to fellow onlookers the moon, planets, and various deep-sky objects. 8pm to 10pm.

Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 12, 2019

  • Mother’s Day Brunches Around Houston Honor the amazing women in your life with a delicious brunch at one of many eateries around town offering a special Mother’s Day menu. Prices, times, and locations vary.
  • Mothers Day at Hermann Park Kick off Mother’s Day with breakfast at Hermann Park’s Pinewood Cafe, followed by arts and crafts, pedal boat cruises around McGovern Lake, and a ride on the Hermann Park Railroad. Ticket prices are TBD. 8:30am to 10am.
  • Mother’s Day Brunch at The Grove Treat mom to an indulgent feast with a build-your-own breakfast taco bar, meat-carving stations, house-made pastries, and plenty of desserts during The Grove’s Mother’s Day brunch event. While taking in the views of Discovery Green, you can sit back and enjoy live music from The Kinder HSPVA and sip $15 specialty cocktails with one-cent refills. $35 per person; $15 for children aged 2 to 12. 11am to 3pm.
  • Art of Wining and Dining: Brunch & Bubbly at Sugar Land Town Square Sample bites from top eateries in Sugar Land Town Square while sipping bubbly and shopping goods from local vendors at the Art of Wining and Dining: Brunch & Bubbly event. As you browse, check out the onsite chalk competition, enjoy an interactive dueling piano show, catch a live speed painting exhibition and more. Tickets start at $10. 11am to 4pm.
  • Second Sunday Revival at Market Square Park | No Cover Sip Bloody Marys while jamming out to live brass music when Market Square Park hosts the first edition of its new summer series, Second Sunday Revival. Noon.
  • Ponies & Petals Cup for Mother’s Day at Houston Polo Club Watch from the stands as polo teams compete in the Ponies & Petals Cup at the Houston Polo Club. You can also expect a Mother’s Day best hat contest, concessions from Ruth’s Chris, and a halftime Champagne divot stomp. Tickets start at $30. 5pm.
