Celebrate 95 years of free, show-stopping entertainment at Miller Outdoor Theatre this August

Pack a picnic and lounge hillside this month as Miller Outdoor Theatre‘s 95th season of free programming continues this month, with several particularly special shows and events through Friday, August 31, 2018.

Since 1923, Miller Outdoor Theatre in Hermann Park has welcomed Houstonians to enjoy complimentary, family-friendly entertainment.

With its 95th anniversary underway, Miller Outdoor Theatre continues to boast a robust lineup of concerts and cultural programming, leading up to this year’s celebratory season conclusion this fall.

As part of their busy schedule in August, we’ve highlights five can’t miss eventshighlights as the summer season winds down and morphs into an exciting series of fall programs.

August Highlights

While there are even more shows and events happening at Miller this month—including free movie screenings, family performances, and concerts—the following selections stand out and shouldn’t be missed.

  • Ladysmith Black Mambazo in Concert | Friday, August 17 | FREE – Traveling the world every year from South Africa, this Grammy Award-winning acapella group brings a message of peace, love, and harmony that is deeply rooted in musical tradition. 8:15pm.

  • Remember When Rock Was Young: The Elton John Tribute | Friday, August 24 | FREE – Along with his Rocket Band, Craig A. Meyer transports audiences with his convincing resemblance to the famed pianist, Elton John. Fans of the dazzling performer are sure to be captivated by the twinkling of the keys, charisma, and costumes at this tribute. 8pm.

  • The Greatest Love: A Tribute to Whitney Houston | Sunday, August 26 | FREE – With the help of South African chart-topping artist Belinda Davids, the Queen of Pop returns to the stage in a night of soaring performances that recalls Whitney Houston’s storied career. 8pm.

  • The Legend of Drums: Drumming the Sky and Earth | Friday, August 31 | FREE – In their U.S. debut, Taiwan Ten-Drum Art Percussion Group presents a powerful display of compositions that trace the development of drum art from its ancestral beginnings to modern society. 8pm.

Miller Outdoor Theatre 95th Season: August Shows

For ticketed events in the seating area, free tickets are available (up to four per person over age 16 while tickets last) at the Miller Outdoor Theatre box office the day of the performance between the hours of 10:30am and 1pm.

Open seating on the hill is open on first come, first claimed basis.
