In our Park Spotlight series, we take a closer look at Houston’s vast array of public recreational areas to shine a light on hidden and not so hidden gems. This week we’ll be spotlighting Sylvan Beach Park in La Porte. Join us as we take a trip through Houston, park by park.

Located just 30 minutes from Downtown in La Porte, Sylvan Beach Park is just the park for those looking to transport themselves from the grind of city life to the tranquil ocean without even having to venture outside of Harris County.

Featuring two small sandy beach areas and the longest fishing pier in the state (measuring 1,100 feet over water), this natural gem is a treat for any occasion with its scenic views overlooking Galveston Bay and easy water access.

With more than 32 acres of beautiful beachfront, there’s more than enough for the whole family to enjoy with amenities including playground equipment for children, an air-conditioned event pavilion, snack shop, skatepark, tables and benches for picnicing, convenient boat ramps, and for $4, you can fish all day at the pier, too.
