Embark on a time warp of history, modern culture, and smart performances at Main Street Theater‘s presentation of The Last Wife, now showing Thursdays through Sundays through Sunday, August 13, 2017.

The Last Wife is a wickedly smart, wryly funny, and modern take on the tale of Katherine Parr, the sixth and final spouse of England’s King Henry VIII.

Although the story is based on historical events, the play unfolds in an immediately relatable 21st Century setting, featuring timeless circumstances amid today’s familiar trappings.

It’s a funny and powerful examination of patriarchy, sexual politics, and women’s rights.

The Last Wife

At its core, The Last Wife is a compelling, contemporary retelling of the relationship between very real historical figures of Katherine Parr and Henry VIII. But, as designed, the play presents a very real and modern story of relationship intrigue as it unfolds in real time.

Kate Parr is smart, confident, and passionate: a rising star in a world filled with intense competition.

But her obligatory marriage to Henry is rife with the threat of violence and lure of deceit; her secret liaisons with Thom, her husband’s former brother-in-law, could send her to an early grave; and her devotion to the education and equal rights of Henry’s daughters is putting an even bigger strain on her marriage.

The show is only recommended for mature audiences due to adult language and situations.

Children under the age of 5 will not be admitted into the theater.

Bonus: Saturday night performances include a free drink with the cast after the show.
