Persuasion

Official kicking off of the “Summer of Jane Austen,” the main event is a screening of the 1995 film directed by Roger Michell and based on Austen’s 1817 novel.

Seven years after Anne Elliot (Amanda Root) was persuaded to break her engagement to young seaman Frederick Wentworth (Ciarán Hinds), he returns. Will the romance be rekindled? Now a wealthy captain, he finds Anne’s family on the brink of financial ruin and his own sister a tenant at the Elliot estate.

The “Summer of Jane Austen” is presented in partnership with MFAH Films, Brazos Bookstore, and Rice Cinema.
