Houston is home to the world’s largest medical center and offers some of the best pediatric treatment in the world.
However, navigating a new, unfamiliar city and affording hotel expenses while seeking medical care can be challenging.
Since 1978, Ronald McDonald House Houston has been providing a “home away from home” for the families of children receiving care in the Texas Medical Center.
The Holcombe House
Located less than a mile from the Med Center, Ronald McDonald House Houston has a stand-alone facility called the Holcombe House with 50 “bedroom homes” for patients and families receiving long-term care.
Guests of the Holcombe House receive many meals, transportation to the medical center, and access to the in-house laundry room, play areas, and community kitchen.
There are also additional rooms and care centers located within local hospitals. These care centers and the Holcombe House, which host a variety of events including tutoring sessions, movie nights and spa days, create a sense of community and foster healing for the patients and their families.

- Volunteer At Events – Volunteers are needed at events as well as in preparation for annual events such as the Trafigura Run for the House, Boo Ball, and golf tournament. Jobs include addressing holiday cards, assisting with administrative tasks, assisting with fundraising events and much more.
- Individual Volunteers – Volunteers 16 and older are needed to greet families, bake cookies, prepare bedrooms, and visit with patients and families as well as other activities that make the house feel like a home.
- Friends and Young Friends Organization – This membership organization and young professional association is dedicated to supporting the endeavors of the Ronald McDonald House Houston through volunteerism, fundraising, and social networking.
