- Walk to Cure Arthritis 2016 on Buffalo Bayou | Saturday, May 14 – Walk with your friends, family, and dogs on a three- or one-mile course and raise funds to support the Arthritis Foundation. Free to participate. Fundraising is encouraged. 9am.
- Empty Bowls Houston at HCCC – Raise money for the Houston Food Bank by enjoying a lunch of soup from the Houston Food Bank Community Kitchen served in a locally hand-crafted bowl. Minimum donation of $25. 11am to 3pm.
- The Market at Sawyer Yards in the Washington Arts District | FREE to Attend – The folks behind First Saturday Arts Market in the Heights present an all new shopping and art market. The new monthly market will feature creators, makers, and artisans from around Houston, plus many of the resident artists The Silos at Sawyer Yards, Winter, Spring and Silver Street Studios. 11am to 5pm.
- Books Alive! Children’s Book Celebration at Central Library | FREE – Celebrate children’s books during this event at the Central Library. Bring the kiddos to hear from Dan Santat and get copies of his books signed, then head to the plaza for arts and crafts, a science experiment, bounce house and more. Noon.
- Southern Star Brewery Grand Opening | FREE to Attend – Head up to Conroe to celebrate Southern Star Brewing Company’s grand opening with lawn games, craft beer and live music on the 13-acre property. Dogs and children welcome. Noon to 8pm.
- Houston Crawfish, Crab & Grill Festival at BH Ranch – Kick back and enjoy crawfish, crab and other bites from the grill as well as music from five bands covering genres like Zydeco and reggae. Tickets are $20. Noon to midnight.
- 2nd Saturday Nites: Bayou Jamboree & Crawfish Boil at Market Square Park | FREE to Attend – Chow down on crawfish and Cajun favorites from Treebeard’s, sip on ice cold brews and listen to the lively sounds of Zydeco Dots. 3pm.
- Texas Black Expo Concert at Discovery Green | FREE – Get down to smooth R&B sounds from Force MD’s, Sugar Hill Gang and Jon B during this free concert at Discovery Green. 4pm to 10pm.
- Houston Dynamo vs. Real Salt Lake at BBVA Compass Stadium – Cheer on the Dynamo as they play Salt Lake in a home game at BBVA Compass Stadium. Tickets start at $24, but you may find cheaper or better seats on TicketNetwork’s resale site. 7:15pm.
- Operativo presents La Cambiale di Matrimonio at Last Concert Cafe – Experience Gioacchino Rossini’s charming, one-hour opera at this fundraiser performance for Houston’s new classical music organization. $15. 7:30pm.
- The Cure in Concert at Toyota Center – Watch from the crowd as The Cure plays hits like “Fascination Street”, “Just Like Heaven” and “Boys Don’t Cry” live at Toyota Center. Tickets start at $25, but you may find cheaper or better seats on TicketNetwork’s resale site. 7:30pm
- Waugh Bat Colony Boat Tour on Buffalo Bayou – Watch 250,000 Mexican free-tailed bats emerge from the Waugh Bridge at dusk while sitting comfortably on a boat during this tour offered by the Buffalo Bayou Partnership. Tickets are $30. 7:30pm to 9pm.
- Mercury presents Beethoven’s Ninth at the Wortham Center – Mercury performs Beethoven’s last symphony with the help of the Houston Symphony Chorus at the Wortham Center. Tickets start at $19. 8pm.
- BYOB (Bring Your Own Beamer) Projector Party at The Menil Collection | FREE – Bring your own picnic, blankets and footage to project images, videos or films onto the Menil Collection’s façade during this free event. Advance registration is already filled, but additional spots will be available on a first come, first serve basis. 8pm.
- H-Town Get Down Dance Festival at Miller Outdoor Theatre | FREE – Hip hop dancers from around the city will come together for an epic on-stage performance at Miller Outdoor Theatre. 8pm.
- Roger Creager in Concert at Sam Houston Race Park – Sing along to songs like “Everclear” and “Love” when Roger Creager performs a live show after the races at Sam Houston Race Park. Tickets start at $7. 8pm.
- Loretta Lynn in Concert at Arena Theater – Country music legend Loretta Lynn will bring her beautiful voice to Arena Theater for a live show in the bayou city. Tickets start at $45.50, but limited discounted $24.50 tickets are available. 8:30pm.
- Back to the Future: Unscripted at Queensbury Theatre – Spin the beloved 1985 time travel hit in a new direction at this live, R-rated improv show, where audience suggestions determine the fate of Marty McFly, Doc Brown, and Biff Tannen – not to mention Marty’s lovebird parents George and Lorraine or the integrity of the timeline itself. $14, but limited discounted $7 tickets are available. 10:30pm.

- Elephant Open House at the Houston Zoo – Learn all about the elephants that call the Houston Zoo home during this open house with an inside look at what these giant creatures eat, how they live and how they’re trained. Tickets start at $55. 8am to 10:30am.
- Festival de Mayo at NRG Center | FREE – Bring the whole event to NRG for a festival of food, fun, games and live music. While this event is free, you must have a ticket. Noon to 6pm.
- Go Wagyu at Soma Sushi – Ten local chefs will battle it out to see who makes the best dish with Wagyu beef. Guests will sample bites and enjoy craft beer and vino from Duchman Winery. Tickets start at $199. 4pm to 8pm.
- Unchambered Concert at The MATCH – Watch the final concert in ROCO’s 2015-2016 Unchambered series performed at The MATCH. Tickets are $25. 5pm.
- Hall & Oates in Concert at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion – Daryl Hall and John Oates will take the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion stage for a concert filled with some of the duo’s greatest hits. Tickets start at $25 for the lawn, but limited discounted $40 reserved seating is available. You may also find cheaper or better seats on TicketNetwork’s resale site. 7pm.
- The Mischievous Muse at The MATCH – Houston’s own Axiom Quartet will perform works from Beethoven, Janacek and Smetana during this concert at The MATCH. Tickets are $25. 7:30pm.
- Rihanna in Concert at Toyota Center – Get your tickets now for Rihanna’s Anti World Tour performance with special guest Travis Scott at Toyota Center. Tickets start at $100.50, but you may find cheaper or better seats on TicketNetwork’s resale site. 7:30pm.
