Step into a pop up orchard for the 16th Annual Fruit Tree Sale at Rice University’s Greenbriar Lot on Saturday, January 16, 2016.

With more than 100 varieties of fruit trees, look on as Rice University’s Greenbriar Lot becomes awash with trees that are adapted to grow in Houston’s climate during this annual sale.

In addition to popular trees such as blueberry, Clementine mandarin, Meyer lemon, scarlet beauty plum and avocado, the market will introduce new varieties and hard-to-find trees such as Dixie Muscadine grape and weeping persimmon.

Brief lectures and demos will be offered at 9:30am, 10:30am and 11:30 a.m., during which customers will learn how to plant trees as well as basic fruit tree care and pruning techniques.

The sale, which also functions as a fundraiser for Urban Harvest, is held in Rice University’s Greenbriar Lot, located between the stadium and the bike track, with an entrance on Greenbriar Drive from 9am to 1pm.
