Kick off the Year of the Monkey at the 2016 Lunar New Year Festival

Join the crowd-pleasing 2016 Lunar New Year Festival, filled with Asian foods, music at the Chinese Community Center on Saturday, February 6, 2016.

Featuring musical and dance performances from local groups, more than 55 vendors offering art, games, food and prizes, activities for children and raffles with more than 80 high dollar amount prizes, this free cultural festival is the perfect way to ring in the year of the monkey.

Performances

Stop by the stage for performances from various cultural groups and local organizations throughout the day, including the ever-popular lion and dragon dances.

The back-to-back performance schedule begins at 10:15am and features traditional Chinese operas such as the Face Change and Monkey King, Chinese-inspired string quartet from Houston Symphony, instrumental and vocal performances, traditional dances from a number of Asian countries and more.

Vendors

Be sure to check out the outdoor Asian bazaar, with rows of vendors offering Asian food, art, crafts and other goods.

Guests will have the opportunity to try unique Asian foods like Vietnamese street-style ham, Chinese bbq octopus skewer, steamed tapioca cake and tea stewed eggs.

2016-lunar-new-year-festival-houstonThose with less adventurous palates can stick to more the widely popular bites like pot stickers, fried rice and spring rolls, and carnival fare including corn dogs, turkey legs and roasted corn. For a sweet treat, try tapioca milk tea, shaved ice, Vietnamese sweet dessert soup or frozen yogurt.

Stop by booths from HEB, Home Depot, Wells Fargo, McDonald’s and Dynasty Gift Shop (just to name a few) for shopping, games and giveaways, and the raffle booth for your chance to win more than 80 prizes including a 58” Samsung smart TV, a $500 Southwest Airlines gift card, an autographed Yao Ming jersey and iPad Air 2.

For the Kids

Kiddos will love participating in calligraphy and lantern-making, playing interactive games, checking out educational cultural displays and getting their face painting.
