It’s Halloween Weekend. Halloween is on a Saturday. That Saturday night happens to be fall back for Daylight Savings Time. It’s a darned good weekend for Halloween and it’s a darned good time to be in Houston. You can pretty much wear a costume anywhere this weekend and be held in high esteem (at least until the sun comes up on Sunday).
The weekend itself is packed with so much costumed Halloween and Dia de los Muertos goodness. So much that there’s too much for us to cram into a single Weekend Guide. - Halloween Events for Kids Around Houston | Daily – Load up the kids, costume and all, and head to your favorite family-friendly Halloween celebrations. Monkey around at the Houston Zoo Boo, hang out with monsters at the Monsters’ Museum of Houston, get spooked at Scream on the Green and satisfy your sweet tooth at the Treats & Sweets Festival in League City. - International Quilt Festival at George R. Brown Convention Center | Daily – Don’t miss the world’s largest quilt show happening over four days at the George R. Brown Convention Center. Browse handcrafted goods like quilts, textiles and jewelry and check out a class or lecture while you’re there. $12 day pass; $9 day pass for seniors and students; free for children 10 and under; $42 for weekend pass. 10am to 7pm Thursday to Saturday; 10am to 4pm Sunday.
- The Masque of the Red Death at Prohibition Supperclub | Thursday through Saturday – Catch a special burlesque performance of Edgar Allen Poe’s The Masque of the Red Death performed by the Moonlight Dolls at a Halloween-themed dinner and show at Prohibition Supperclub & Bar.
- Adult Halloween Parties Around Houston | Friday and Saturday – Head out for a night on the town in your best costume at these 21+ Halloween Parties around Houston. Have a cocktail during Spirits & Skeletons at HMNS, get spooked at Fright Night in the Heights or go on a Haunted Hike with BCO at Memorial Park. Prices, times and locations vary.

- History of the Sword Lessons at Bellaire Recreation Center – Join Houston Sword Sports to learn about ancient European swords and weapons during this class at the Bellaire Recreation Center. $25. Kids class at 6pm; adults class at 7:30pm.

- The Slackers Comedy Show at Station Theater – Laugh out loud during a comedic improv show featuring a revolving cast at Station Theater. Shows are BYOB. $6. 8:30pm.

- Treat Street Fest at Cinco Ranch Church in Katy – Expect a big candy haul at this night before Halloween trunk or treat, complete with music, food vendors, games, a bounce house, face painting and more. Only kids from age 3 through fifth grade require tickets, everyone is free. Tickets are $2 in advance; $4 at the door. 6pm to 8pm.
- Dia de Los Muertos Tequila Dinner at Arnaldo Richards’ Picos – Sip on Milagro tequila while enjoying a four-course dinner at Arnoldo Richards’ Picos. Come in costume. $99. 6:30pm.
- Rice Owls vs. Louisiana Tech at Rice Stadium – Cheer for the Rice University football team as they take on Louisiana Tech at home. Tickets start at $19, but you may find cheaper or better seats on TicketNetwork’s resale site. 7pm.
- Journey to the Underworld at Myth Kafe – Come in costume to Myth Kafe’s Journey to the Underworld for tarot readings, face painting, live music, French wine, Greek food and regional beer. Your ticket includes three drinks and dinner. $95. 7pm to 11pm.
- Fanatical Change’s Superhero Halloween at the Diamond Club at Minute Maid Park – Join Fanatical Change for a night of cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, auction and costume contest at Minute Maid’s Diamond Club. Guests will also enjoy live music on the field. Come dressed in costume or cocktail attire. All proceeds go to support Houston families in great need. $40; $150 VIP.
