Stay inside the Loop — in style — for work or play at Hotel Derek

Find yourself in a hip, urban and totally Houston boutique hotel, whether your home is time zones or just miles away.

Hotel Derek revels in its split personality: business by day, pleasure by night, corporate digs by workweek, romantic getaway by weekend. By thoughtfully embracing this dual nature, Hotel Derek provides a chic place to work, play and stay inside the Loop.

Mid-week, Hotel Derek is a prime spot for business travelers, appealing to a young set of oil and gas executives and a well-heeled European or two. When the corporate crowd clears out at the end of the work week, Hotel Derek plays host to vacationers—many of them Houstonians from surrounding suburbs who use the Hotel Derek as their own pied-a-terre.

Night and Day Appeal

The night-and-day nature of Hotel Derek is easiest to see at Revolve Kitchen + Bar. In the morning, the black-laquered tables feature a lavish breakfast spread; evenings, they become pool tables where business travelers enjoy downtime in a lively bar.

Similarly, the full-service Starbuck’s coffee bar that serves the corporate set each morning transforms nightly into the Tap and Pour: a craft-beer bar that even the bearded, skinny-jeaned set can approve of. Vibrantly decorated common spaces like the living room fireplace invite impromptu meetings…or cozy places to enjoy a custom cocktail.

H-town Hospitality

Such thoughtful details abound at Hotel Derek, acquired and renovated in 2012 by the Destination Hotels group. “Our goal is to provide a distinctive H-town experience—Texas hospitality with a sexy edge,” says Stephanie Summerall, Hotel Derek’s director of sales and marketing.

Billed as “the only boutique hotel inside the Loop,” Hotel Derek distinguishes itself from its many big-hotel-chain neighbors by not only proudly wearing its Texas identity (see the signature cowprint robe in every guestroom), but also serving as a hub for discovering Uptown and beyond. Hotel Derek offers convenient access to Memorial Park and Galleria-area shopping, dining and entertainment, as well as free chauffeur service to downtown.

Despite the beckoning of Hotel Derek’s many amenities and the nearby attractions of Houston, it would be easy never to leave the room. The design is both modern and inviting, with sumptuous beds and sweeping views of the Houston skyline. The penthouse suites were recently renovated in collaboration with designers Mitchell Gold and Bob Williams just down the street in Highland Village, and many of the upholstered pieces and décor items are also available for purchase (including aforementioned cowprint robe).
