Grab apples, carrots and peppermints and head to the Mounted Patrol Stables in East Little York.

No appointment is needed to spend some time with nearly 40 police horses at the Houston Police Mounted Patrol Stables.

Walk right into the clean stables where you’ll find horses being trained, being groomed and waiting to be fed.  When you pull out your apples or carrots, you’ll see one horse, and then the next, and the next, pop their heads out of the stalls. If you don’t pay enough attention, some will kick the doors and ask for the snack!

Big carrots are the easiest to feed the hungry horses, but you can also bring quartered apples or peppermints.  Remember, the smaller items mean you get closer to the horse’s teeth!

Kids love visiting the stables and it’s easy and free for the parents. If you are looking for a unique thing to do in Houston, visit the Mounted Patrol stables!
