  • 9/11 Heroes Run 5k at Ellington Airport – Houston’s own version of the national 5k commemmorating September 11, 2001 happens first thing Saturday morning. Proceeds benefit Houston Fire Fighters, Travis Manion Foundation and Assist the Officer. $35 race registration. Opening ceremony 7:30am; 5k at 8am.
  • Dash Beardsley’s Wake the Dead Show in Galveston – The creator of Ghost Tours of Galveston Island has assembled a full day of experts of the paranormal, along with musical guests, writers, entertainers like actor Eric Roberts and vendors at the Galveston Convention Center. $55 all day; $25 after 1pm. 9am to 6pm.
  • Kids Korner at the Breakfast Klub | FREE – Kiddos enjoy free face painting, coloring, music and more at the popular Midtown morning dining destination. 10am to 2pm.
  • Houston No Limits CityFest at Discovery Green | FREE – Celebrate Houston with live music from Nick Gaitan and The Umbrella Man, The Suffers and Los Skarnales, courtesy of the Greater Houston Partnership. The Astros, Rockets and Dynamo will have tents, along with many other vendors and Houston champions. 10am to 2pm.
  • First Saturday Arts Market in the Heights | FREEThis monthly outdoor fine arts event showcases artists Ralph and Nell Parker, returning after a three-year world tour. Greg Cruz and friends pick the blues at 11am and rising Nashville star Hope Cassity performs at 3pm. Enjoy treats from food trucks H-town StrEATs and Cadillac Coffee. 11am to 6pm.
  • Houston Brazilian Festival at Jones Plaza – Revel in Downtown with live music and dancing by local Brazilian artists, delicious Brazilian food and drink, arts and crafts and fun for the whole family. $8 online through Friday; $10 at the gate. 2pm to 10pm.
  • Houston Ship Channel Centennial Family Festival at Bayport Cruise Terminal | FREE – Celebrate 100 years of the Houston Ship Channel at this free outdoor fair and maritime exhibition in Pasadena. Food, drinks and parkting are all free but an RSVP is required. 2pm to 6pm.
  • Fashion Truck Collection Grand Opening Party at CityCentre – Enjoy cocktails from Deep Eddy Vodka, music by DJ Little Martin, food by Dry Creek and more at the opening of this retail store from Urban Izzy, Shoe Bar Mobile, Height of Vintage and Park Boutique. 5pm to 9pm.
  • Shwarzenbach’s Art Show at Captain Foxheart’s Bad News Bar and Spirit Lodge | FREE to attend – Discover a display of original art from American musician, writer and artist Blake Schwarzenbach at Bad News Bar in Downtown. Schwarzenbach was the singer and guitarist in the bands Jawbreaker, Jets to Brazil and Forgetters. 5pm to 9pm.
  • OMG Hot Summer Bash at House of Blues – Catch a line-up celebrating the end of summer with Hot 95.7 FM featuring showcases by Magic!, AJR, Jake Miller and Becky G. Full price tickets are $25 to $35 before $10 fees. You can likely find cheaper seats around $20 at TicketNetwork’s resale market. 6pm.
  • Underdogs Sports Pub Second Anniversary – The casual pub on Washington is entering its terrible twos. Head on over for drink specials served with tongue-in-cheek immature revelry. 6pm to 2am.
  • Cut, Paste, Repair: A Hundred Years of Collage at Sicardi Gallery | FREE – Mark the 100-year anniversary of collage as an art form at the opening of this special exhibit featuring work from Kader Attia, Lorenzo Bueno, Lenora de Barros, Ramiro Cháves, Arturo Herrera and Cristóbal Lehyt. 6pm to 8pm.
  • Brad Paisley in Concert in The Woodlands – Country’s clever hit singer-songwriter takes the stage at the Cynthia Mitchell Woods Pavilion, joined by with Randy Houser, Charlie Worsham, Leah Turner and Dee Day Silver. Tickets range from $30 for the lawn to $65. You may find cheaper or better seats on TicketNetwork’s resale market. 7pm.
  • Houston Cougars vs. Grambling State Tigers at TDECU Stadium – The team from Grambling in northern Louisiana faces off against Houston in the Cougar’s second game at their brand spanking new stadium. $25 to $45. You will likely find cheaper or better seats on the TicketNetwork resale market. Televised on ESP3. 7pHouston Dynamo vs. Montreal Impact at BBVA Compass Stadium – The Dynamo school the Impact in some Texas English on Saturday night in EaDo. Tickets start at $22. You may find cheaper or better seats on TicketNetwork’s resale market. 7:30pm.
  • Mary Wilson and Freda Pain Sing the Legends at Miller Outdoor Theatre | FREE – See two talented stars portray musical legends Lena Horne and Ella Fitzgerald. Songs include “Mr. Paganini,” “Mack the Knife,” “Someone To Watch Over Me,” “The Lady Is a Tramp,” “They Can’t Take that Away from Me,” “Stormy Weather” and more. 8pm.
