Make like an Aggie boy and hightail it to catch Theatre Under the Stars’ production of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas at Miller Outdoor Theatre nightly Wednesday, July 15 through Sunday, July 20, 2014.

There’s “nothing dirty going on” at this tongue-in-cheek musical based on the infamous Chicken Ranch near La Grange and its 1973 run-in with beloved Houston reporter Marvin Zindler of KTRK-TV.  More accurately, Zindler drug the ranch and its less than Puritan business dealings into the spotlight in an televised expose. The big reveal shuttered the ranch and inspired stories in Texas Monthly and Playboy, the original 1978 Broadway musical, the 1982 film starring Dolly Parton and Burt Reynolds and, of course, the song “La Grange” by Houston’s own ZZ Top.

This weekend, Theatre Under the Stars is going literal with their name, presenting a fresh production of the original musical at in the great outdoors at Miller Outdoor Theatre. And this one is on the house.

The sassy, spirited musical about the long-running house of ill repute tells the story of madam-with-a-heart-of-gold Miss Mona Stangley, trigger-happy local sheriff Ed Earl Dodd, loud-mouthed television reporter Melvin P. Thorpe (expanding even further on Zindler’s showy onscreen persona), the Texas A&M football team, and the racy girls of the Chicken Ranch.

There’s “just lots of good will, and maybe one small thrill. But there’s nothin’ dirty going on!”
