Travelers will visit three distinctive cities in Nicaragua, staying at luxury and boutique accommodations and dining at a collection of authentic local restaurants hand-picked by the Cordúas. The week will culminate at a private sunset reception at the hillside home of a Cordúa family member followed by dinner at the family-owned restaurant that inspired Michael Cordúa to create Houston’s own Churrascos.

Today, the two chefs lead Cordúa Restaurants whose eight Houston-area restaurants include the beloved Churrascos and Américas. The tour is a collaboration between the Cordúas, who chose the destinations, and Houston Outbound, which was founded to develop travel experiences built around Houston’s connections to destinations around the globe.

Explore Nicaragua

Stops include Granada, the oldest European-founded city on the American continent; San Juan del Sur, a spectacular seaside village; and colonial León, the historic home of the Nicaraguan revolution. Travelers will also visit the active Masaya and Cerro Negro volcanoes and the Las Isletas jungle islands in Lake Nicaragua. Other highlights include a tour of the famous Flor de Caña rum factory in Chinandega; lunch at La Cueva del Buzo, a Managua seafood restaurant owned by a notorious Italian revolutionary now living in exile in Nicaragua; a surf lesson at a surf camp founded by a former Houston attorney; and more.

The tour has been designed to allow travelers to enjoy independent time in amazing places, as well as partake in group activities. Throughout their journey, travelers will discover opportunities to be spontaneous and explore their surroundings with their spouse or traveling companion at their comfort level, while still having access to a local, knowledgable bilingual guide and the Cordúa’s own expertise and history.

Included in the Tour

The tour includes 14 tickets, available for seven couples or pairs at $3,875 per person. The price includes seven nights of hotel accommodations, six destination meals (four dinners, two lunches), seven breakfasts, a personally autographed copy of the 2013 Cordúa: Foods of the Americas cookbook, pre- and post-trip cocktail receptions at Américas River Oaks on June 15 and July 27, transportation within Nicaragua in a private air-conditioned vehicle, a local bilingual group tour guide, and all local taxes.

Houston Outbound, a sister enterprise to 365 Things to Do in Houston, is focused on finding and creating exciting and unique things to do outside of the city’s borders but with a Houston mindset. It expects to follow this one-of-a-kind tour led by the Cordúas with other unique travel experiences in other destinations that have helped Houston become what Forbes called “the next great global city.”

To ensure the quality of the travel experience, Houston Outbound is working with a travel partner with almost 10 years of experience sending travelers overseas on unique tours led by experts, educators and other personalities for academic institutions across the U.S., including Rice University.

With the launch of Houston Outbound, and its new tour with the Cordúas, 365 Things to Do in Houston is also rolling out a new travel-section-with-a-twist. While 365 Things to Do in Houston will continue to focus on and reveal fun, quirky and exciting things happening in the Bayou City, our new “Outbound” category will begin a new weekly feature highlighting noteworthy experiences and destinations outside of Houston’s borders.
