Celebrate the rapidly evolving Buffalo Bayou Park at the free, family-friendly Picnic in the Park at the Police Memorial on Saturday, April 26, 2014 from 11am to 2pm.Â
Refurbishments have been completed on the north bank of Buffalo Bayou along the Sabine to Montrose stretch and the good folks at Buffalo Bayou Partnership and Houston Parks & Recreation are having a Saturday afternoon party to celebrate. Located around the Police Memorial north of Memorial Drive, the event will feature live music, boat rides, face painting and balloon artists, and lawn games like bocce ball horseshoes and badminton.
You can pack a picnic lunch or buy food and drinks from the Whole Foods Market food truck. Either way, you’ll want a blanket to claim a spot and settle in for an afternoon of fun.
The unveiling includes the new Carruth Bridge, which now passes over Memorial Drive and connects the Police Memorial to the rest of Buffalo Bayou Park. Construction on the park began in mid-2012 and the entire park transformation project is expected to be complete in mid-2015.
