You must experience Rice Gallery’s newest installation Unwoven Light by Soo Sunny Park on display from April 11 until August 30, 2013.

Rice University Art Gallery presents a stunning new installation from American artist Soo Sunny Park, who continues her exploration of light and its impact on physical space and architectural design. Her newest installation Unwoven Light is a sweeping and curvaceous structure, suspended in the air and shaped from sections of chain link fencing. Within each of the thousands of open spaces hangs a shape made of iridescent acrylic Plexiglas. Each shape reflects, refracts the natural and artificial lighting, making sure the room and art never appear the same way twice. Imagine the way the colors change on peacock feathers and you’ll start to get an idea of the effect.

The installation debuts Thursday, April 11 in a free art opening from 5pm to 7pm. You’ll be able hear Park speak at 6pm about her inspiration and the process of creating Unwoven Light. If you miss the opening you can also attend a luncheon talk Friday, April 12 at noon. You’ll want to arrive a little early as starts at noon sharp. A complimentary light lunch will be provided.
