For three decades, McGonigel’s Mucky Duck has struck a balance between being one of Houston’s hidden gems and also one of the best, most intimate places to see regional and national singer-songwriters. With a history of hosting names like Guy Clark, Terry Allen, and Lyle Lovett, the Irish pub boasts a calendar of touring artists and a weekly Wednesday night of traditional Celtic music that has been ongoing for over twenty years. From anywhere within the Mucky Duck, you’ll have great sightlines of the small corner stage among tables and chairs that fan out through the bar. Despite operating as a restaurant with a full menu of flavorful, large-portioned dishes, the din of the crowd is kept to a minimum during performances so as to respect the musicians on stage.   If it gets a little too cozy inside the Mucky Duck, feel free to slip into the back patio which opens up the venue with outdoor seating and plenty of room to enjoy one of the many brewed selections on tap. Parking is available in an on-site lot but can fill up for popular performances, leaving patrons to find street parking or opt for a rideshare to the venue.
