This weekend in Houston is packed with a slate of Saturday festivals, celebrating everything from blues to Zydeco, Earth Day to Día del Niños, and craft brews to Frida Kahlo.

You’ve also got chances to get out and see performing arts productions as the seasons wind down, adopt some adorable pets, and catch a legendary rock band taking over NRG Stadium.

  • The Father at 4th Wall Theatre Company | Daily | Ongoing – This 2014 Moliere Award Winner for Best Play opens a three-week run, telling the story of Andre, who navigates aging as confusion sets in and his reality constantly shifts around him. $15. 7:30pm.
  • TUTS presents The Cher Show at Hobby Center | Daily | Final Weekend – Called “slyly fabulous” by the Hollywood Reporter, this show examines the life of the incomparable Cher, who’s dominated music, movies and more across her six-decade career. Bonus: every one of those iconic Bob Mackie outfits are recreated for the stage. $40 and up. Showtimes vary.
  • Fly Fishing Film Fest at Moody Gardens | Friday & Saturday – Attendees can experience some of the finest content in the world of fly fishing with renowned fly-fishing films IF4 and F3T along with vendor booths, gear, and more. $15 and up. Times vary.
  • Comedian Nate Bargatze at NRG Arena | Friday & Saturday – Hailed as “The Nicest Man in Stand-Up” with clean and relatable comedy for all age groups, Nate Bargatze brings his brand of laughs to H-Town. You can check him out on Netflix specials like The Tennessee Kid, Greatest Average American and his latest special Hello, World. $29.75 and up. Times vary.
  • Houston Ballet Spring Showcase at Wortham Center | Friday & Saturday – See the stars of tomorrow as Houston Ballet Academy students represent the future of ballet, whether performing works from the Company repertoire or ballets created specifically for them. $42 and up. Showtimes vary.
  • Comedian Josh Adam Meyers at the Riot Comedy Club | Friday & Saturday – The headliner you may have seen on Netflix, Comedy Central, and at festivals and theatres across the country comes to the upstairs stage at Rudyard’s for two nights of laughs. $20 and up. 7pm and 9pm.
  • Vintage Market Days: Bloom at Humble Civic Center | Friday to Sunday – Shop ’til you drop at this indoor/outdoor upscale vintage and vintage-inspired market overflowing with original art, antiques, home decor, clothing, handmade treasures, jewelry, outdoor furnishings, and more. Friday $10; Saturday and Sunday $5. Times vary.
  • Houston Grand Opera presents The Sound of Music at Wortham Center | Friday & Sunday | Ongoing – The family-friendly vision of Rodgers and Hammerstein comes to life with world class performances from the HGO orchestra, chorus and cast—featuring mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard as Maria and baritone Alexander Birch Elliott as the Captain. Sent to be a governess to the seven children of the remote Captain von Trapp, Maria finds she must decide between the life she imagined for herself as a nun or follow her heart. $25 and up. Friday 7:30pm; Sunday 2pm.
  • Sugar Land Arts Fest at Smart Financial Centre | Saturday & Sunday – Plan for a full day of all things art with more than 100 visual artist booths to shop from, plus excellent local food, wine and beer gardens, live music and more at this family-friendly weekend event. $10 and up. 10am to 4pm.
  • RailFest: Model Train Rally at Galveston Railroad Museum | Saturday & Sunday – Be immersed in the golden age of railroads at the one of the biggest model train shows ever as train clubs and individuals from across Texas run spectacular large-size train sets at the Galveston Railroad Museum. Come by and enjoy entertainment, a food court, interactive activities, Depot Marketplace vendors, and exhibits throughout the museum and rail cars. $20; $15 for ages 5 to 16; free for ages 4 and under. 10am to 5pm.
  • Spring Vibe Market at Post Houston | Saturday & Sunday | No Cover – The Downtown hub for dining and skyline views hosts a weekend market with more than 250 local artists, creatives and makers sprawled throughout the indoor campus. Enjoy complimentary cocktails, an art gallery, an aura photo booth and bites from the globally-inspired food court. 11am to 5pm.

Art Car Museum Farewell, Hermann Park Commons & Other Destinations

  • Earth Day Celebrations in Greater Houston | Saturday | FREE – While most of the Earth Day celebrations take place around April 20, there’s still events happening this weekend if you want to pay tribute to Mother Earth.
  • Final Days: Art Car Museum in the Heights | Final Weekend | FREE – Closing on Sunday, the Art Car Museum offers few remaining chances to explore the legacy of one of its founders in its final exhibition, The Creative Era of Ann Harithas.   • Spring Soiree by Musaafer at Blackwood Farms – Savor Musaafer’s annual chef-curated 10-course dinner while basking in thestunning evening backdrop of Blackwood Farms in Hempstead, complete with live entertainment and surprises. $375. 5pm.
  • La Noche del Niño at Children’s Museum Houston | FREE – Ahead of the cultural holiday that celebrates the wellbeing of children, this evening event in Museum District offers a dazzling extravaganza with free bilingual piñata book giveaways and performances by Vivaldi Music Academy and Teatro Bilingüe. 5pm to 8pm.
  • Kevin Jerome Everson Talk at Glassell School of Art | FREE – The artist and veteran filmmaker with more than 200 films under his belt—including The Island of Saint Matthews, Tonsler Park, and the 8-hour Park Lanes—comes to Houston to share his experiences. 6pm.
  • Top Taco at Post Houston – Taco lovers unite for unlimited taco tastes and signature tequila cocktails from some of the best restaurants in town, plus two stages of live music and entertainment, creative tequila lounge areas, mezcal tasting, and awards for best tacos and tequila cocktails.   • Sunset Yoga at the Water Works at Buffalo Bayou Park – Relax and recharge with golden views of Downtown Houston as the Breathing Room takes yogis of all ages and levels through a 45-minute session. Bring your own mat. Suggested donation of $10. 6:30pm.
  • Identitiy: Unraveled on Film at Contemporary Arts Museum Houston | FREE – Nine teen filmmakers from CAMH’s Teen Council explore their evolving individuality and multitudes of being in a series of short films, presented alongside food and a Q&A with the filmmakers. 6:30pm to 8pm.
  • ’90s Pop & Pour at Bocca Italian Kitchen – Celebrate the decade of Furby and boy bands with a four-course meal paired with delicious wines and set to pop songs of the ’90s. Each entree will be prepared by celebrity chef and Chopped champion, Chef Justin Turner. $90. 7pm.
  • Chicano Batman in Concert at White Oak Music Hall – Jam out to the Latin rock sounds of Chicano Batman when the LA-based rock band brings their fifth album, Notebook Fantasy, to Northside. $32.50 and up. 7pm.
  • Sarah Jakes Roberts at Smart Financial Centre – With a focus on spiritual growth, personal development and leadership, the influential speaker comes to Sugar Land, aiming to empower individuals to break free form limitations and step into their full potential. $43 and up. 7pm.
  • Mao’s Last Dancer Film Screening & Conversation with Li Cunxin at Asia Society Texas Center – Embrace the remarkable true story of dancer and artist Li Cunxin, who was forcibly detained in a Chinese consulate when refusing to return to China. Following the film, Cunxin will be joined in a conversation by Ambassador Chase Untermeyer, who also played a role in the real-life events. $20. 7pm.
  • Comedian Leslie Liao at Houston Improv – The stand-up comic, most recently featured on Netflix’s Verified Standup, comes to Houston for a night of introspective comedy built around her experiences as a single Chinese American woman in Los Angeles. $80 for 4, and up. 7:30pm.
  • AURA Contemporary Ensemble presents Imagined Worlds at Moores Opera House – Take in an evening of contemporary dance and music by UH scholars and student composers. $20. 7:30pm.
