Celebrate the 4th with six degrees of Pappy Van Winkle

Toast America with Van Winkle whiskey as Reserve 101 unveils six bottles of  the distillery’s finest, including all three varieties of the coveted Pappy Van Winkle, on Friday July 4, 2014 beginning at 5pm.

With a unique whiskey recipe that substitutes wheat for rye and mixes it with the traditional corn and barley, Van Winkle’s bourbon is often noted for its softer, smoother taste. The wheat allows it to age more gracefully than the typical whiskey.

On Independence Day, Reserve 101 will open its doors and open their six bottles of from the Old Rip Van Winkle Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky. The bottles include three of the distillery’s highly sought after Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve, which is often regarded as one of the finest bourbons in the world, a rare find due to its low production and high demand.

Van Winkle Whiskeys to be Unveiled

The six Van Winkle bottles on offer include Old Rip Van Winkle 10yr 107 Proof ($12 per shot), 12-year old Van Winkle Special Reserve ($15 per shot), 13-year old Van Winkle Family Reserve Rye ($17 per shot), 15-year old Pappy Van Winkle’s Family Reserve ($25 per shot), 20-year old Pappy Van Winkle’s Family Reserve ($40 per shot),  and 23-year old Pappy Van Winkle’s Family Reserve ($80 per shot).

The 15-year-old Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve received a 98 rating from the Beverage Tasting Institute. The 20-year-old Pappy received a rating of 99 from both the Beverage Tasting Institute and Wine Enthusiast magazine. The 23-year-old Pappy was rated “Five Stars” by spirits guru F. Paul Pacult, who also called the 15-year “a whiskey connoisseur’s bonanza” and a “remarkable find” in his Spirit Journal.
